Hi, just thought to hear someones opinion. The story has started few weeks ago when i was contacted by Atlassian recruiter saying they have got a wonderful Senior Engineer position for me and if i would like to go for it. We have discussed some details including my expectations on compensation. During next couple of weeks i have passed all together 4 interviews (3 technical) with positive recruiters feedback. So the last step now is the cultural fit interview. Just now i have got a call from the recruiter saying there are likely would not be able to onboard me as Senior but ready to offer Mid level position with lower salary explained it with very high role bars. Not that i would be so strict about the salary, but i dont feel taking mid role after 6 years in senior position. Have you ever experience anythin similar?
“I can almost promise you’d be promoted within a year if you perform well, so really it’s just temporary” Yes, typical trick you here
If you want to jump aboard go for it. I know few people who’ve done the same. Possibly it was how your interview performance was. Additionally you could then immediately keep interviewing (why stop) and if you get another company offering that better position and pay, jump.
Push back
Did they ask you design questions and hard DS questions? What did you feel about the questions - were they easy or difficult for a senior dev? Check in glass door and compare your interview
There were different questions. Some quite easy, other would give us some more space for discussion. None of the questions were blocking hard.
What is your current TC and how much are they offering?
TC calc here in Aus is probably diff to US. My base now 120K AUD (+ about 20 as equity) - actively growing tech startup. I asked for 150K AUD base. They came with 100 - 125K AUD max for mid and asking if i want to continue.
Tell them to fuck off with that offer. Stick to what you ask for and don't back down.
