I am expecting an offer from Atlassian. Interviews were pretty good. After getting the interview feedback, recruiter said i am in between p4 and p5. what TC should i expect? Yoe 7 years ( 3 yrs of pre-masters and 4 yrs of post-masters exp) Current base salary : 146k
Relatively speaking, Atlassian doesn’t pay that well, TBH (even with the whole compensation readjustment they supposedly went through last year to become more competitive). About half the company is sitting pretty on some fairly stellar RSU returns since the IPO, so maybe that’s part of the reason. Your current base is higher than what they typically pay for your level and experience. From what I’ve been told, P5 midpoint is around 145k, though there’s obviously stock and bonus to consider as well. They’ll also probably try to sell you on the whole “you might make more somewhere else, but we have better culture” spiel. If only “culture” paid the Bay Area rent...
Please post your offer when you get it! Curious minds want to know :)
Final offer : 160k base / 150k worth stocks over 4yrs / 10k signon bonus / 10% yr bonus
Huh. I got 145k base, 125k stock/4 yrs, and a 15k sign on bonus a few months back for p4 and they said that I’m “borderline p5” (10 yoe and a masters degree) and that it was “a fair offer” so it wasn’t negotiable. I was a little bit “WTF?”, TBH.
Judging by some of the 1st yeat P4 to P5 promotions that were pretty much "duh, how was this person not hired at P5 to begin with" I think we're habitually underleveling.
Well I’ve been at “senior level” for the past 5 years of my career, so I was literally demoted. Their response was that Atlassian’s job levelling is way harder than other places and “everyone gets demoted when they come here”. 🤔 Anyway, I accepted it, so can’t complain too much. I could have walked away. And I’m tempted to sometimes when I read threads like this and feel shitty and like I was lowballed. I’m happy for OP, though.
