Aurora interview- STAY AWAY!

I interviewed at Aurora, AV company. Terrible experience, try to stay away from this company. THEY DECEIVED ME INTO DOING AN ASSIGNMENT FOR THEM I passed the phone screening and then I was given a choice for onsite: 5 interviews or 4 interviews + 1 technical assignment. I chose the latter and spent two days on the assignment. Knowing that I’ll have 4 interviews and I can explain my choices, I didn’t submit my best work. I implemented a simple C++ solution without any dynamic memory allocations or advanced class designs (I have 5 YOE working on large C++ code base). Solution didn’t need to be advanced. I submitted a simple solution to their problem and I solved it! After one week, I received an auto email that said good luck in your job search and no feedback. Also no additional interviews as promised by the recruiter. This is so annoying, at least explain in the problem what do you expect from the solution. Or be upfront that your onsite depends on successful completion of an assignment. They tricked me STAY AWAY from doing an assignment for them, absolute waste of time

Shouldn't have picked the assignment in the first place. You get zero insight about the company, you're guaranteed to spend way more than the interview time on it, and 4 or 5 interviews doesn't make a difference anyway.

You shouldn’t do any of those assignments for any company

This is probably on you. Should have clarified the expectations before you took that assignment. Generally, more time with the technical assignment means they're are more than a simple solution!

Never do an assignment for anyone period. It's always a bait and switch.

None of this sounds like you were tricked You 1. Had an option not to do it 2. Admitted you didn't do best work 3. Didn't ask them any clarifying questions It sucks to not get feedback but this definitely isn't trickery.

my option and what I promised was an assignment plus onsite interviews. They didn’t honor their initial word! That is called using tricks and baiting you On other points, yes, it wasn’t my best work because I knew I would probably ace the other four interviews. I asked them what they expect in a solution, their response was “a simple aolution with explanation of your choices” Hence, I call their interview process to be totally based on dishonesty!

Yes, they definitely lied to you.

"Because I knew I would probably ace the other four interviews" The recruiter was doing a great job filtering arrogant people from the interview pipeline. "I submitted a simple solution and solved it" Do you really think you solved it? You have 5 yoe and still think like a new grad. Your post is already very telling about yourself and I'm glad our recruiter cut you loose to not waste our time interviewing you. You should instead thank your recruiter who saved you time and energy as well. You are unlikely to pass even if given the chance to other rounds. Just move on.

Is it possible that they found your C++ code quality below par for 5 YOE? You admitted it wasn’t your best code. I think it is quite logical not to waste 4+ hours of developer time interviewing someone who they perceive has low likelihood to pass the bar.
