is Austin better for cost-adjusted-TC than bay area? looking to decide on whether move to Bay Area or Austin, and wanted to get input from the community. this is a slightly vague question, so more details follow: there’s a lot of data on levels.fyi and Blind about TC in Bay Area, but not very much data on Austin TC (especially the equity part). for reference, my YOE is 10, with TC 350k. i’m not looking to solely move for TC purposes, but i can calculate/weigh the other moving factors separately; so this question is purely about TC. my understanding is that 10 YOE can get 350k + in several places (pins, FANG, Lyft... etc) in the bay area. are there places that offer more than 450k? so far i think Netflix is the only one with guaranteed 400k+. (im okay with counting AirBnB TC at 400k because it’ll very likely go public. but i don’t consider TC from series D unicorns or smaller because of the risk) however, what’s the scene like in Austin? would people even get 300k+ TC, as easily as getting 350k+ in bay area? do people do this with lesser-known companies? or do people get that with FANG hubs in Austin? P.S. happy early turkey day!
Really depends on the role. But Austin area is just a bit more expensive COL vs Dallas. My recent offer for a Dallas FANG is about 15% less than someone in Seattle area which is about right. So expect maybe 5-10% more than Dallas but 5-10% less than Seattle and another 40%-60% less than Bay area it seems. YMMV

Remember to visit in summer too. Not everyone can stand 100 days reaching 100F consecutively.
300k+ TC in Austin is pretty tough to get. You might get it at Google, Apple, or Amazon if you’re senior enough. Good news is your standard of living on 200k in Austin will be better than the Bay Area even with high salaries.
Is it a Turkish flag in your “happy day”? 😱
