33. Married with a kid. Work 50 hrs/week. PhD with 6 yoe. Hate the rain/cold. Want to be happy when im not working.

Capital One zolk13 Jan 3, 2019

OP 220 K is great money for Texas. I wouldn't move to Seattle for 290k.

Intel Intelegacy Jan 3, 2019

YOE ? 220 k at Intel 🤔

Intel MurphysLaw OP Jan 3, 2019

6 yoe w/ a PhD. G8 moving to 9 soon.

Intel Intelegacy Jan 3, 2019

Better to move. Moving into higher salary range in Austin would be difficult. You can comeback to Austin later as well. But Try to push your TC in the range of 320-350

Calculate how much you will save if you stay at Austin and Seattle. Then make your mind. If it was me if I will save 15%+ I would go. + I like changes myself so that’s a plus for me.

Intel MurphysLaw OP Jan 3, 2019

I will save more. But, people scared me of the city. Its much worse that Austin.

Much worse in what sense? Could you please elaborate? I haven't been to Austin so pardon my curiosity

Amazon Freshp Jan 3, 2019

OP hates rain/ cold.. don’t worry. It’s sunny 90% of th time with the occasional showers.

Intel MurphysLaw OP Jan 3, 2019

Didnt do research before i got the offer.

Amazon Freshp Jan 3, 2019

At least the summers are good. Come over OP

Microsoft I’mSo’n’So Jan 3, 2019

No

F5 Networks Op64em Jan 3, 2019

You hate the rain and cold. That makes this a very easy decision for you.

Intel MurphysLaw OP Jan 3, 2019

Well i dont think people in Seattle like it either. But they must be seeing in that city that I do not see.

Microsoft naaam Jan 3, 2019

There's much more to a city than just rain. But if you do hate rain/cold, easy decision. Don't come. 70k more money won't get you Sun. If you're depressed and down, you won't even get another son 😉

Amazon arYE05 Jan 3, 2019

I love rain and cold yet still hates every day in Seattle

Microsoft lalalond Jan 4, 2019

Perhaps because you work at Amazon? LOL

Google Shaktiman’ Jan 3, 2019

That’s additional 4k per month post tax. It’s lot of money and there are more tech opportunities in Seattle.

Intel MurphysLaw OP Jan 3, 2019

Take about 1.5k for extra living expenses, makes it 2.5k. Plus getting a promotion at my current company in a year or two would make it even less. I am trying to think longterm.

Amazon aSoL84 Jan 3, 2019

How the fuck 70k more in seattle results in 4k per month post tax?
