Does anyone know how the automated resume screening works and have any tips to offer? Do they screen based on the schools you attend/companies that you worked at/where you live/YoE/GPA/keywords in the job description and so? Some of the job listings on LinkedIn mention petty things such as Word, PowerPoint under their keywords alongside TensorFlow, Hadoop. Do people still mention Word and PowerPoint on their resumes? TC: 135 YoE: 1.5
Yes. Its basically a software HR’s use like Workday or icims etc. HR’s sets a criterion that you need to meet to get noticed.
My advice: don't worry about the automated screen. Write your resume for consumption by actual humans, and get a referral to skip the automated screen step (easy to get these on Blind). My boss passes on so many candidates just because they wrote stupid things like "demonstrated ability to work in the software engineering industry" on their resume. Those things might get your resume in front of a human, but ultimately you need the human to bring you in.
I agree. Referrals are the best to get your resume reviewed by a human. However, if you are applying to FAANG, getting a response or a resume reviewed is still hard. I would suggest start networking with people eg future Managers/VP’s etc on LinkedIn, reach them out for informational interviews to get a direct interview in future after you establish a professional relationship with them . Hope this helps!
Many thanks!! Would you mind if I DM you about the references part?
Good Luck!
Just make your resume relevant to the job. Thats it!
Not as many companies use automated screening as you think. Amazon doesn’t, and from what I understand most other faang companies don’t either.
A recruiter can only go through so many resumes!
I mean I guess. But it’s kind of our job to do so. I do through hundreds of profiles and resumes a week. Most hiring in tech comes from passive sourcing, and not direct applications
I don’t recruit data scientist/analyst. But if you Pm I’ll give you my email and if you send me your resume I can see if I can find you a recruiter with an opening
Sure, thank you so much!!

Much appreciated!
Somebody who worked in this space once told me it more or less boils down to diffing the text of the resume and job posting
Thank you!!
