If you received an offer from Pinterest recently, I strongly recommend taking other options if available. Why? - Refreshers and comp bands have been nuked. Refreshers are now significantly lower, and get even lower if you’re near the top of the band (which was just lowered). If you’re at the top of your band, whether by performance or negotiating well when joining, you’ll barely get anything. - The process for lowering comp took several months, during which HR repeatedly lied about the purpose and the outcomes, rather than being transparent about cost cutting. - When moving folks to the new bands, they placed an emphasis on “scope”, which was decided at the director level and above. Of course, these directors played heavy favorites when relevelling people. Performance barely had an impact, if any. - The good WLB and friendly culture is almost completely gone. Pips come out of nowhere, and if you’re pipped, they’re designed to fire you as fast as possible. There’s a lot more backstabbing, scope grabbing, and empire building than before. - There’s no long term cohesive plan for the product. The C suite couldn’t care less about the user experience of the app. Their only goal is to squeeze every last dollar out of it and cash out (CEOs compensation is heavily incentivized by short term stock growth). - Poor technical leaders across the company. Several high level engineers and managers are incredibly inept at the domains they lead. There’s a lot more that’s been frustrating recently, but those are the ones top of mind for me. I’m sure others from Pinterest can share their thoughts as well. TC: 530 YOE: 10 #tech #pinterest

Sorry to hear this, OP. I’ve gotten scouted for some contact positions of theirs a while back but nothing ever came of it. Sounds a lot like Amazon, especially with the lack of WLB and weaponized stack ranking in the form of office politics. Sadly, this culture is quickly becoming the norm across all tech companies, and the recent tech winter has enabled a lot more of this nonsense than before. Cutting refreshers and gutting the comp of your employees is the easiest way to kill morale, and I know that you and the rest of the Pinterest employees here on Blind are going through it. Hopefully you’ll find something better, OP. 🫡 TC: 90K
I agree - From what I can tell, the new comp model is very similar to Amazon’s
I’m pretty sure their new model around contact positions is illegal. They treat contractors like full employees but without the benefits and pay…
I’ll add my Pins opinion. It’s not an avoid. It’s fine, I’ve worked other places included FAANG. I’d argue 12 months ago, maybe even 6 months ago, it was a great place to work I would have highly recommended. I’d put it as average for the industry now. At least we’re still committed to remote and haven’t been threatening RTO.
Can you please highlight on the band changes and new salary/refresher bands? That would be more helpful for anyone considering to join
It’s hard for me to do so, I’d just ask the recruiter to show you all the numbers and see if they make sense for you.
Do you work in ml?
Well, people will still take Pinterest offers over shit paying $100k job in Chicago. Let's admit it , tech industry is facing a crisis primarily because of low barrier of entry, unlimited immigration from India/China, outsourcing jobs and engineering charters to India/EU. The Crux of the issue is low barrier of entry. Look at doctors, lawyers and finance folks. None of these industries suffer from inflated labor pool.
The barrier to entry is not low lmao. So few people are capable of passing FAANG senior+ interviews
Every dog on the street has done 250+ leetcode questions and memorized system design book/articles/videos. The pass rate at FAANG has always been 60+%
I’d suffer for that TC….
Exactly. Companies paying 150k require developers to work 50 hour weeks.
Does Pinterest has any future ?
Yes, short.
Short future or Short format videos?
It basically came down a tier from whatever tier you put it in previously. Depending on your current situation it might still be lucrative for you but not trustworthy leadership so take ur chances 🤷♂️
Can you please highlight on the band changes and new salary/refresher bands? That would be more helpful for anyone considering to join. Can I dm?
I just did an interview with Pinterest (non tech) and the pay range they told me (not an offer just comp range chat) was insanely high. Is Pinterest known for paying super high? The number was so high it made no sense. 250-290k for marketing base sr lead but IC
