I have an offer from Walmart for a Senior DS role (fresh grad channel) , details : Base :104 Joining bonus :15 Year end : 20% ~ 20 Stock : 35 over 3 years ~ 12 Relocation: 6 TC : ~157k Location: Dallas And a DS role at BCG Gamma : Base : 145 Joining:15 Year end : 20% ~29 Relocation:5K TC: ~ 195k Location: New York I have an overall experience of 4.5 years most of which was in India. I just graduated (MS Analytics with a specialization in DS from the university of Cincinnati in August). BCG is not considering the overseas experience hence the offer is for DS and not Senior DS. I am confused between the two, decoding which will prepare me for a better future. Ps: I also have the final rounds pending for Amazon DS , but they’ve been delaying it for some time now so not sure if that’ll go through.
Walmart. Consulting companies will probably make you work harder and make you do less valuable data work.
Yeah that’s true, what I am trying to gauge is where I might learn more in a span of 2 years and get a good exit.
I was offered 220k for senior ds x4 2 years back. New offer seems low
I think that might be because I went through the new grad channel
Walmart stock is per annum, so I think that’s 35k each year. Double check with your recruiter
I checked in the offer, it’s for 3 years ( I think this might also be because of the channel )
I think he was saying that Walmart typically has annual RSU refreshers
You are in the beginning of your career. Consulting is tough but you will learn a lot and will be able to sell your experience in 1-2 years unlike Walmart experience. Consulting experience is very valuable, especially in US. You might not learn DS as much as you expect but gaining business acumen and communication skill will be a very fruitful investment. You can learn DS anytime, anywhere. Experiences from a seasoned DS who has consulting experience and teaches DS at a top university.
This ^
I wouldn’t change consulting maybe what I did but not the industry because it gives people the sense you know how to work with people
Just joined Walmart as senior DS new grad in Sunnyvale in july and here is my offer looks like. Base:145K, sign on :33k, new hire equity:45k vested over 3 years. Stocks:45k per year vested over 3 years. So I will get 45k every year which again vest over 3 years. and 20% bonus. Relocation:17k. Walmart is really good in terms of wlb. If you are looking for better tc, ask for Sunnyvale/Seattle/NJ offer. TC for all these 3 locations are same
BCG if you want resume prestige, roughly equal if you’re looking for best value (TC/CoL), Walmart if you’re looking for WLB and best $/hr. Personally, I’d tell BCG to kick rocks for refusing to consider your pre-grad school experience. You’ll work close to 2x the hours at BCG, and Walmart corporate is actually supposed to be a pretty good gig.
Yeah, the experience thing sucks big time but they’re super adamant on this.
