Which has the best career growth opportunities. In the past, at least in big tech, frontend had slower time to promotion as the work was looked down upon/wasn’t viewed as technically challenging. This view is fortunately starting to change. Note: most full stack engineers still lean more towards one of these TC 280k
Backend >>> sorry not sorry
Take the markup (html/css) out of it and FE becomes a somewhat close competitor to BE. Otherwise BE >>>>> FE. As for the growth, I think in most cases both roles have equally specialised so they offer similar growth opps
Backend after Senior, up until Senior level it's same. But from staff upwards you have more room for influence. I have done primarily FE in the last 5years and started to do BE now, if I stay on this for 2 years I can confidently say I'm full stack😁
Were you downleveled switching from FE to BE?
Not at all. I kinda max out my potential at my current role as FE, I am more of a mentor to the FE team now . I am officially a Fullststaack but still feel like a very junior person in the BE even though I've done it in the past. Not just at the current scale .
The key thing to keep in mind is that at th majority of companies you need 1 front-end engineering for somewhere between 10 and 100 backend engineers.
100 backends? That sounds ridiculous
I think frontend is more specialized and still takes a longer time for promotion. Pay is usually the same for both fe and be in big tech which is nice.
In the past two years, front end has earned a lot more respect in FAANG and adjacent. Many companies still don't value it though, and even the ones that do don't value it as much as back end.
I read it as Backhand vs Forehand. Geez, I am watching too much tennis 🎾.
I like the FE better 🍑

Successful Indians give false narrative about their lives?
I am FE and know the correct answer is BE. A lot of companies treat BE and FE the same so you may have opportunities as an FE to grow into a BE role
