A coinbase recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and I responded positively. On the phone call he asked me for my current CTC which I obviously denied sharing stating that “I am not comfortable doing so”. I even told him to put any random number in the system if it is required by the system. Plus few more reasons why sharing what I currently earn does not makes sense. He stated that it was not possible to move forward without knowing what I currently earn because the roles salary is fixed (68L) and non negotiable. I was not able to move forward with the interview process just because of this. TLDR: Recruiter wanted current TC which I did not share. The end of interview process. Have any one of you had similar experiences with coinbase? #engineering #software #swe YOE: 3 TC: 36LPA
Wow dude the one company which pays you irrespective of your previous comp and you fought with the recruiter over a pointless thing, how immature
That’s such a weak mindset. It’s none of their business what I earn now if I am capable of clearing their extensive 5-6 rounds interview process.
So short the hill you chose to die on. Entitled much?
I think you missed out on a good opportunity for a reason thats not valid - trying to have better leverage. I can eaisly understand the recruiters perspective - they want to ensure that you are getting a raise without wasting their resources on the process. You could have atleast told them your expectation and they would have confirmed it
The recruiter never asked for my expectations and was very much fixed on knowing what I earn. I did not know about their fixed compensation structure. His questions regarding me getting a raise could have been answered without me sharing my current numbers.
Probably it was about you appearing rude more than your willingness to disclose numbers. But can't say. Ive seen coinbase recruiters being very proud of themselves
Since coinbase comp is fixed for a level. Why did recruiter ask for current comp?
They ask for it, so they know it's a decent bump for you and know that after the whole process it would not be for waste if your current TC was already very high
Recruiter: “Hey, we are offering 68L for this role and follow a fixed compensation structure across the organisation. Is that okay with you?” Me: “Yes, that works.” It was this simple.
If they really offer fixed TC, why the hell even ask current TC..
Never mind. Saw other response.

You should have shared. You were gonna get 68L no matter what if you cleared the interview
Don't get into any argument with recruiters dude, they can make or break your case.
It did not make sense to me why that data point was necessary for the interview process even if the role’s ctc was fixed. Should have said the my current CTC comes under NDA but I forgot.
