I’m dating someone who is very into branded items and often talks about brands. Personally, I’m not particular about brands and usually buy whatever suits me, like a shirt from Target. My partner, who works in big tech and has the means, seemed disappointed when I mentioned where my shirt was from. Maybe they want better for me, but I simply don’t see a difference between branded and non-branded items. I don’t have a strong preference for brands, even though I can afford them. My main interest is in spending on my car upgrades, but I never impose this on my partner (who drives a Mercedes C Class). This difference in outlook on brands is the only mismatch in our relationship, and I’m not sure how to address it.

How’s capitalism going?
Nothing wrong with liking high end brands. It does matter though if your values are different enough to already disappoint your partner. Do you feel you can freely discuss this with your partner? Because what matters the most is your ability to openly talk with your better half about literally anything.
