Uhm, no. You need a car. If you suck at driving then factor in 24hr personal driver. At least outside of SF. Seriously, you will be miserable.
Actually it’s more like I can’t drive due to medical conditions
Understand. In that case, you should consider living in central SF, staying in nyc, or pick another walkable option
You need a car. But Uber and Lyft are everywhere so if you can afford 20-30$ rides to get groceries you might be okay. The weather is good but you will be sad and stranded without a vehicle. Best bet is to find a boyfriend or girlfriend to drive you around
u can’t walk anywhere here and public transportation is not 24 hrs like nyc, there’s no subway. Everything closes early, nobody walks around, no diversity
Big mistake. Stay in NY
+1
fb is extending an offer and in the process of sending all onboarding emails and stuff. I’m suddenly getting cold feet. It might not be a good choice from personal standpoint and the issue of being in a “spread out area” like bay area
Therefore the incentives of moving are big but still having some doubts
It's more like spilled out. Austin Boston NY Redmond even chicago is a better option if u are just switching jobs. If it's a big career upward move then u have a reason to suffer and take a risk. But just coz its fb I would highly suggest to not move.
Try asking them for Boston office. They expanded quite a bit there and office location is in kendal square. Good public transport. Beautiful city. Snow is a pain but rest 9 months are very nice. People are good. Crowd is diverse. Definitely stay away from bay area. Fb officr is in Menlo park which is like a corner. U need a car here even to get a coffee. Noone walks. Traffic is among the worst in the county. Super expensive living and each and every thing. Atleast in ny u get much better life for almost same living cost. If ur current company allows, try spending a month wfh here. Ull get the feel.
Less a holes trying to out bro you. Minus is TC obsessed people.
I’ve actually noticed more a holes trying to “out bro” because of the eng one-up culture here
I lived in NYC before. Bay Area won’t compare well, but if you don’t want to live in SF and can’t drive then consider Berkeley area
I moved to the Bay after being born and growing up in NYC. I lived in Manhattan. I hate the Bay.
Do not move here if u dont drive.. also bay area is extremely depressing after u have lived in ny. Saying from first hand experience. Unless it's a huge jump up in job I would highly suggest to stay away from bay area if u like ny city life.
