What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Money just disappears from pockets in Bay Area no matter how much do you earn. Researching options to move to other place where I can buy new house fot $500K with 8+ schools (or private), sunny weather, ocean within 1h drive. Florida? Assuming remote work for 500K+. Folks who live there, with kids especially - share your experience: pros, cons, location, monthly expenses. What other states to consider? WA is not in the list - I've lived there. Too crowdy, no sun, cold, almost same expenses as in the Bay Area. 10yoe 500K TC
This is what 750 k home looks like in Tampa Florida in top school district . The same in Bay Area will cost 3-4 million . https://www.trulia.com/builder-community-plan/Hawkstone-Madeira-Iii-2076663525?mid=0#lil-mediaTab
Top school district with 3/10 and 4/10, and I know that a 8/10 school in fl is at the best 5/10 elsewhere. Cheap materials, I saw these constructions. Look crap in real life. Also insurance rates are off the roof.
The traffic will make you wish you hadn’t. I say this having lived in the Bay Area.
Meanwhile, traffic in the Bay Area
Having lived in both (and spent 10+ yrs all around Florida) Florida traffic is *much* better. If you avoid 5 pm rush hour it’s not bad at all
Just make sure u keep the job you moved there with. I assure you that you will never find as high a paying job in FL.
If you are moving to Florida, only look at cement block (CBS) houses. Zillow does not have an option to filter for that, but buying a frame house in Florida is just foolish. Water ingress, termites, 360° of bug ingress... You can usually get a good discount for a house that needs a new roof, and a new standing seam metal roof will last for 50 years and cost about $35k. You do not want to buy a 500k house in Florida outside of the exclusive communities. The biggest reason is liquidity. The economy in Florida is extremely poor so home buyers here do not have that kind of capital. No one in San Francisco or New York or Seattle is going to interview you living in Florida. I'm seeing that right now. Once I set my location to be in one of those cities, I started getting interviews. The public schools here are abysmal. Some of the worst in the country. Private schools are it and for those you'll be paying about $50,000 per year per student regardless of level.
After google you don’t change u just retire there
500k will buy you a nice house on a good school district 30 minutes from downtown Austin.
How is diversity there? I heard it’s not. A lot of racism? Is this accurate?
I’d do your research on property taxes and homeowners insurance before buying anything in Florida. Property taxes are pretty high and getting your home insured might be super expensive depending on where you move. Also the humidity in Florida is gross in the summer months. If none of those things bother you, then Florida might make sense.
Used to live in Florida, Tampa area. The housing there was much cheaper prior Bay Area folks started their mass migration, and in a couple of years housing cost like doubled. Lots of locals who were planning to buy couldn't anymore, or even were priced out from rentals. Just saying, it all depends on the people around, but some locals might not be very friendly and welcoming as they'd blame you for their housings situation.
Take a look at Luisiana and Carolinas. In my opinion Florida prices are overinflated and it does offer much difference compared to rest of the south. East Texas isnt bad either but I'm not a fan
If you have kids, I’d recommend you look into Irvine/Orange County in SoCal. It’s getting quite expensive now but still a bargain compared to the Bay, has a big tech presence and only an hr flight from the Bay if you ever do have to switch jobs to something that require hybrid.
A nice house is more like $1m but yeah it’s a great spot to build wealth if you can get a high paying remote gig. Come be my neighbor!
What if OP is serial killer?
More exciting! Just don't kill me
