Hi, I told my manager that I am leaving and also revealed the name of the next company. Now, they think its a competitor so they are walking me out before my intended end date. But they said they will pay till the intended end date. 1. Will they be using my remaining PTO days to pay me for the remainder of the time ? 2. In that case is it possible to pull back my end date and start at the next company earlier. The next company is ready to pull back the start date but are 2 days enough for Apple to end employment ? I just want to make sure there is no overlap of payrolls because I have heard there is an issue with that when on H1B 3. Also, one of my team members also knows where I am going next. Can that be a problem ? 4. In hindsight, was it wrong decision to reveal next employer? Thanks EDIT - I didn’t reveal my next employer by myself I was asked by my manager and I thought he is a nice person since he has been very accommodating so far so I told him. But unfortunately he revealed to one team mate, I didn’t expect he would but he did #tech #hardware #h1b #software
From my understanding if you give notice and they tel you to leave they have to pay for you that time, at least in California. So seems like a win to me. Basically free PTO
I’m giving 1 year notice that I’m leaving.
It would not surprise me if that actually worked in California.
1. No 2. Yes but makes no sense to do so 3. Isn’t the cat out of the bag already? 4. Yes, standard answer is I’m taking some time to look into multiple options I have.
Never tell them next employer No benefit and none of their business Congratulations on new role What’s the TC increase and company you joining ?
What are the possible bad outcomes of telling new employer? Aside from what happened to OP, which sounds a one off
What are the GOOD outcomes of telling them? There are absolutely none. And risks of thing them. -> why are you leaving? “I am evaluating my next step. I am focusing on <things that are making you quit>. I don’t have anything finalized yet”
1. Not likely 2. Why can't you be employed by two companies at once? 3. I wouldn't have told, but that's just me. I say let them find out in LinkedIn
On h1b it’s more complicated. You need to look at from immigration perspective
Start immediately and enjoy the extra paycheck
Is it possible that the current team can influence the next team negatively about me ?
No way. Just don’t tell the old Apple team at all
What's wrong with being walked out early? It's an extra free 2 weeks of pay.
You have to be too stupid to name your next employer
I didn’t reveal by myself I was asked by manager
Then, let me guess… you revealed it?
I've heard of people revealing their next employer because they wanted to be walked out early and getting a nice vacation out of it. I've even seen people ask about possible competitors to lie about being their next employer for this reason. Why are you worried about that? Just enjoy the 2 weeks paid vacation. Also, they have to pay your PTO, at least up to the point written in your contract. And your current team in company X can't put in a bad word for you at company Y, unless they know exactly what team you're going to and they happen to be friends with someone on that team. The odds of that I'd say are pretty low?
Hmm okay thanks that helps. Also I wouldn’t have revealed if he wouldn’t have asked. But the unexpected part was I didn’t understand why he revealed to one of the team members
Yes I’m also failing to see what the issue is @op sounds like free vacation 😁
If it a competitor, they have an obligation to disconnect you from info that could hurt the company. If your boss asks, don’t tell him. Just say that “it’s not real until day 1” and if he asks you if it’s a competitor, say yes if you want to get walked out, otherwise no.

I’d never reveal where you are going to your current employer, lots of downsides and virtually no upsides. Can’t help much with your other questions though, best of luck!
What are some downsides
Being walked out before your intended start date, for one.
