Are there any advantages of investing in 401k after tax if you don't plan to be in USA for more than 5-6 years.
Only advantage is you invest without paying capital gains tax for sometime. Ex: you have $100 and make $10% returns. After one year, if you sell and reinvest in regular brokerage, you reinvest $108(assuming 20% capital gains tax). In Roth, you invest $110 For second year, you have invested $2 more and it keeps cumulative. But you will loose more if reinvestment looses value. It benefits if the additional gain by this compensate 10% early withdrawal rate. But all this mess is not worth it. Long term hold should be the strategy for investment.... Not selling, reinvesting every year. So, NO USE of Roth IRA in my opinion
You can always sell it later, still benefits
