Best Direction to Take My Career?

Based on my resume below, I'm hoping to get some career advice. I started in software later than I wanted to out of school, but I'm trying to make a career out of it now. I'm switching roles at General Motors in a couple weeks; going to be doing embedded software again focusing on ethernet embedded C coding. I'm hoping to take my career back down this path in order to make myself more desirable to companies outside of automotive in case things go downhill here. Also hoping to find a fully-remote position again in the future (GM has a 3-day in-office mandate currently). Thanks in advance! Base Salary: 105k #software #embedded #careeradvice #workfromhome #remote #latebloomer

Fully remote and embedded don’t really mesh well together

Based on my experience, what software role other than embedded can I transition into?

Systems or security would be a good start, but truthfully, if you just put in some work you should be able to transition into general backend work. It won’t happen magically though, you need to do some studying. Designing Data Driven Applications goes over most of what you would need from a general persoective

Serious question how have you been doing some form of software / engineering for this long and only make a base of 105k? I'm software and have less total yrs experience than your combined time at GM and magna and my base is 160

At Magna, I did calibration for most of the time I was there - only coded for half a year or so. Then at GM, I’ve only been doing testing. I’m finally moving to a role next week in base com where I’ll be coding in C for Ethernet communication. But yeah, I don’t know why I’m so underpaid. Lack of confidence maybe?
