Got an offer for 55k starting with generous benefits in the Midwest. Was wondering if I should continue looking elsewhere or that’s about as good as it gets?
55k in the Midwest post grad is great for an HR role. I’ve seen entry-level HR roles in the 60-65k range here in the Bay Area. Take it.
55k isn't too shabby for that kind of role. I'd take it if it's a decent company
Consider HR is the most useless function in any company, $55k is robbery considering you will literally do nothing of value
Please dont devalue a profession, even if you invented gravity and astrophysics. Even I do Si stuff but that doesnt give me right to look down even on a janitor. Plus that might not do justice to somebody who might be slogging in that profession. Good old respects mate.
Ooof. I’ve worked at companies that don’t have or value HR. From culture to compensation, it sucked.
That's it? I'd say go into recruiting. Entry level out of college at an agency can be pretty close to that then you can make commission.
Honestly I think you could do a bit better, but it’s not a terrible intro salary for HR. What’s hard to tell is how valued HR is at your company... If it’s a shitty HR org (admin, tactical, etc) then the pay wont increase much over time... If HR is actually doing valuable, strategic work then there will be room for advancement well beyond 55k. I would say the fact that they have a rotation program is a good start to showing they value the function, but I’d probably base my decision more on what you heard during your interviews as far as what kind of work you’ll be doing. I’m the end, 10k on your base will even out over time at the right company.

HR what? Recruiting?
It’s a rotational program for post grads at a Fortune 500. You work in three different roles (could be anything under the HR umbrella) for 8 months each then typically get placed after the program.
