Trying to transition from operations to data science/analytics. I learned SQL and am currently teaching myself Python from self-help books and youtube. Is there another language I should prioritize learning first? If you could start over on learning how to code, what would you start with first?
Python 3
x86 assembly or ARM instruction set and C. But then just knowing Javascript well will get you a good enough job so be pragmatic.
Python
C -> Java -> Python.
LISP
Prolog

If you want to learn just problem solving then sure go for Python, but if you want to learn how computer systems work and why then no. I would recommend a compiled language to be learn first. C++, Java, C#. Python is a good language but its beauty is only apparent if you have worked with something more cumbersome first.
Agreed. But based on the OPs background and interest in data science, I was thinking that the OP is probably not interested in C++.
