I am a new grad and I am about to join a tier 2 company. I wanted to know what car/brand would be good for entry level in the long run in terms of not braking down, giving good resale value? I dont wish to spend too much as I have other debt too. Will mainky use to commute to work. (Techie and M)
Tesla.
Read the success criteria.
Tier 2 company. I think you deserve a Chevy. Japanese and German cars are only for tier 1.
So you drive a Chevy. Good for you
OP has some issue with being tier 2. I don't.
Toyota and Honda. You can pickup a 6 or 7 year old Toyota Corolla for less than $9,000. Aside from the consumables you'll never have to fix a thing. Also parts are cheap. Don't buy a nice car unless you get tons of value from it. If you are afraid to buy used or go on Craigslist you can often get a new Camry or corolla with 0% financing. Not as great of a deal as a used car but I know some people are willing to spend a few thousand more because they aren't comfortable talking to strangers
In your opion, Which models would be a great used buy?
Civic coupe
Civic in general. Honda is a good middle ground between boring reliable Totoya and sportier Mazda and Subaru. I'd personally get the Civic hatch/5 door, just a little more utility if you need to haul stuff and they look nice.
The first car has a special place in a man's life. Don't get some routineass vehicle. Get something you will cherish every single day, the kind you can boast about decades later. What's your budget? Blind can help you pick that alpha transportation.
Thanks. Wow, this feels sad. But I have priorities and being student debt free is much higher than having any car as of now.
Na man. I was a student too, my first car cost me under 1000 USD. But it was a very special car - the kind you will find in car history books. Don't buy some routine stuff which half of America owns, is what I mean
1998 Lexus LS400
I am just few years older than that car 😂
It’s cheap, reliable, luxurious, has a nice V8 engine, and it gets all the bitches
Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla are the two most commonly answered cars for questions like this
Assuming you're in tech, you don't need to go for the cheapest possible car. But given you're asking blind for advice, I'm guessing you're not really a car person either. I think the best value is probably a 2 or 3 year old certified pre-owned car - something like a Honda HR-V or a Kia Soul (or if you want a sedan instead of a crossover, a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla). That way you're not wasting money on a new car but you still get something new enough to have safety tech and decent Bluetooth etc.
2/2 you are right. In tech and not a car person :P Thanks for the advice
CR4 is good enough for starter. Please look into 2nd or 3rd hands. Also, local gov in NY or NJ usually have auctions selling confiscated cars, which are generally in very good condition but at a much lower price (and many are good models).
Are non dealers allowed in them?
I am not sure. My uncle bought one from there, a few thousands cheaper from dealers. http://www1.nyc.gov/site/finance/vehicles/services-auctions.page

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Toyota’s are great with strong resale value. Honda’s are good but lots of road noise. Mazda 3s are also very good.
Thanks will look into it.
