Amazon is kinda at the bottom of the food chain right now. How do I improve my status to be like the happy folks at Google/FB? Don’t say leetcode
You should leave ASAP if you’re not happy. There’s a million people that would love your place
You know for a fact nobody would take Amazon over FB or Google except for you. Look up the FB => amazon or google => amazon transitions on LinkedIn. It’s a fraction of the inverse. So, yeah, I’m not convinced of your assertion
Wrong, I and many others have
working for the most trusted company in the US puts you at the bottom of the food chain huh?
I mean, nobody would rather work for Amazon than Airbnb. I’m speaking strictly in terms of engineers. In terms of the general public it’s not bad, but there are so many of us it’s not impressive.
For what it’s worth, I had return offers as an intern to both google and Microsoft, and I went with AWS. There’s a lot more than you think.
Why do you think status makes others happy? Amazon is not the bottom.
Idk, as someone that has never had status nor has ever been at the top nor has been happy, im making a guess that some permutation of those variables yields happiness
No one cares about your status nor will you get any as long as you're a dev. If you want anything worth mentioning, create a billion dollar startup. You will never be at the top. Chad will fuck more women, have more money, be more fit, and make your own mother more proud than you. Happiness does yield happiness. Just try to be more happy.
I don’t understand. I work for Google and I don’t feel any extra status. I don’t care about things like that so maybe that’s it
Don’t people look up to you? Nobody looks up to me.
I don’t know if anyone looks up to me because of *that*. Whoever would look up to me because of working for Google would probably look up to you for working for Amazon.
You should talk to a therapist about what’s at the core of your need for status and your insecurity about where you work. Find some self-worth, because once you don’t need status anymore, you’ll be far happier.
By being an interesting person. Nobody cares where you work in real life. Saying you work at Google doesn't impress anyone
How do you do that Also I think it does Btw do you to GTech?
Nope, I'm from the Midwest. Some people care where you work, but most of those people aren't worth knowing.
You can also try being good at your job and climbing the corporate ladder. You start by thinking: “I love this company!” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=f__n8084YAE Until you do this, you’re going to keep feeling unfulfilled and keep sucking because of the lack of engagement.
Have you considered that this metric is just lousy? Wouldn't it be better to measure your status by your impact on society? How good you are as a human being. When you do that I reckon you'll be much happier.
Happiness comes from within
