Going to be working near Columbus circle. (59th & 8th Ave). Considering sublets in either Long Island City or West Village/Chelsea. Both are about 2 miles from the office. I'd walk or bike in, weather permitting. I like to be around restaurants and clubs to check out music on the weekends. Brooklyn has more clubs now but I'll be going to work more often than I'll go out. Apartment price is the same. Other option is rent near the office but area seems boring. This will be my first time living in NY.
Manhattan always
Manhattan
If working near Columbus Circle, check out Hamilton Heights + Washington Heights. Short commute and less expensive than Brooklyn or any other part of Manhattan.
Manhattan any time, live for a couple of years, best time of my life
Soho for the chicks
I’d take the West Village / Chelsea over LIC. The 7 train is the only way in and out from Manhattan, so if there are ever service issues (which has happened before for long stretches of time), you’re SOL. That said, Columbus Circle is an express stop for the A and the D trains, so if you want to live in Brooklyn and are near one of those trains it should be a reasonable commute.
The (better) court square side of lic has the e, m, and g trains. E would be great for getting to Columbus circle
LES all day
I don't understand the Manhattan charm. Personally I would rather stay in Hoboken and save the 3% city tax. On a 250k TC, the NYC city tax can be around 6k a year or 500 a month. Would rather save that and retire earlier.
Manhattan >>>>>>>>> Hoboken
How does the city know you actually live there? Just based on if you get a driver's license there or not?
Roosevelt Island, walk over the bridge!
Huh? The bridge is to Astoria. F train or cable car goes to Manhattan
Can't you walk over the 59th Street bridge? I know you can ride a bike over it. And on Marathon Sunday everybody runs over it.
Single? -Hoboken
Really Hoboken is good huh? Commute is longer but apartment would be larger, parking available etc
Oh! Hoboken is the best! My friends live there and they have the best parties, night outs, etc etc.
