Big Tech to bring 20k jobs to NYC

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/05/nyregion/nyc-tech-facebook-amazon-google.html “Facebook employs 2,900 people in New York, and recently signed the lease at Hudson Yards for 1.5 million square feet in three buildings. In addition to providing space for 6,000 workers, the deal gives the company an option to take over another several hundred thousand square feet in the development.” Hopefully, my leet coding will pay off soon. Get me some of that sweet sweet FAAG TC ... yummers. TC 125k

New York market is hot And getting hotter! This and prime market pay is 👌 Plus much more interesting area than Seattle or SV / San Francisco

Adobe Binary76 Jan 5, 2020

Agree. In comparison to SV or Seattle, NYC is a real city - SF is on par, but I prefer NYC over SF any day. Seattle rolls up the sidewalks by 11 p.m. NYC has far better restaurants, museums, and parks than Seattle.

They’re so much nature in SF. Hardly any in NYC

LinkedIn igotb& Jan 5, 2020

You’re not making Big Tech better, you’re just making NYC worse

JPMorgan Chase shaytoon OP Jan 5, 2020

Kidding aside, I see your point. However, NYC is a lot more diverse both culturally and professionally. In the bay, every insufferable d-bag works/eats/breathes tech. In NYC, the vast majority of professionals are not in tech, and you don’t get the same tech culture echo chamber effect. If anything, tech will bring more diverse opinions/ideas to NYC’s legacy corporate culture. So I wouldn’t worry about NYC losing it’s soul when tech expands here.

Makes it better if it gives tech workers more alternatives to the Bay Area. Would take NYC over SF in a heartbeat

These companies will do to New York what Amazon did to Seattle. Rob it of its character. People were always moving out, it has only accelerated.

Nah, too many other industries and too much history in NYC to ruin the whole city. Some neighborhoods would change, but thats happening anyway

I just bought a house 10 mi from nyc so go for it

Docker kubeedm Jan 5, 2020

If I had a nickel every time I've heard a city becoming the "next Silicon Valley". For a Software Engineer being in the bay area is not just about having FANG or TC. Bay area is filled with startups & easy to find VC funds, which then equates to limitless opportunities.

Nyc is full of finance and small international startups ...

JPMorgan Chase shaytoon OP Jan 5, 2020

Nobody with half an ass for a brain believes NYC will be the next SV, but it doesn’t hurt when tech workers have great options outside the bay. I can honestly say my life has been great after moving to NY. Wish I did it sooner. Does that mean NY is better than the bay for lifestyle? Absolutely not. Different strokes for different folks.

Airbnb daRealSlim Jan 5, 2020

Good. Could you take all the NYC transplants to SF who contrast SF as a less desirable place to live but here for the money with you?

Amazon readme.q Jan 5, 2020

✅ done 😂 I literally have nyc friends that as soon as their teams expand in nyc will bolt out of sf ... about 10 of em

Airbnb daRealSlim Jan 5, 2020

Yes! Please go. Don’t even have to wait. So many miserable people here just for the money, ugh.

Amazon llame Jan 5, 2020

yeah, gotta love that FAAG TC

JPMorgan Chase shaytoon OP Jan 5, 2020

Well Netflix isn’t coming, so FAAG, not FAANG
