I started in software because I like building things. Moving from startups to big tech I learned a lot, but the politics ground me down. I’ve worked on so many things that don’t matter but were political priorities, and when I find things that do and could make a difference they don’t matter to higher ups. (FB manager once told me not to dig too deep into a whole of likely privacy issues because it was better to not know. ) I became someone who hated their job and like office space just did enough to not get fired/politically expedite my career. I’m starting at a startup again today and excited to be driven to actually try and build something and actually do good work again. I lost sight of that. I’ve realized that I’m unhappy because I’m not doing stuff because the company profits won’t change if I work hard or slack off a bit. I switched companies based on pay, which to an extent has gotten good things for me but at a cost of my mental sanity. YOE 8 TC before 600 now 350

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Great decision. I'm quitting my job and rejected extremely high TC offers to go work at a startup.
TC or GTFO

Bro you could be depressed from your TC drop. How did your TC drop?
I guess most of us feel this but are waiting for some or the other “goal” to reach before we can say I quit. Until then it’s just grinding away which sucks.
