Are Amazon, Microsoft and others big tech companies monitoring location of remote workers that are not going back to the offices? If so, how does it work? any experience that someone could share? Thanks #officelife #amazon #microsoft #remote #faang
I don’t think so. But I think they may begin to hire overseas staff for remote jobs and pay them in sunflower seeds
Btw, I don't think MS is offering lot of positions remote? Is it?
I would say that's on the hiring manager. If they want you, you can be remote
Companies monitor it more for local labor laws and workers comp compliance than for taxes.
What about if the location is not in the US? Does that matters?
Yes, companies are expected to comply with local labor laws.
they wont care. You tell them that you work in particular location. Even if they know they are not at fault if IRS catch you. So if you declare that you are working for a place which is not really what you call out, you will most certainly loose to IRS/IncomeTaxDepartment if ever caught. Remember you can break any law, unless caught, you are good. If caught you will have trouble.
Whatever address is on your paycheck, should be the location determining the tax.
