Hey, I got 2 internship offers this fall and I'm having trouble picking which one to work at. Blackstone pays a bit more (~$400/month more) but Microsoft has more benefits. Blackstone is in NYC and Microsoft is in Redmond. Should I choose higher pay or brand name? (This is my last internship and I plan to go full time after).
Fully depends on what you want to go into after - Microsoft has a much more reputable name across the entire technology industry, and you’ll be of prime importance at the company. However, getting a position in Blackstone is much more difficult as they are far fewer positions there, and would be a better fit if you’re interested in the finance industry. However, in Blackstone, you’d be much more of a cost center for the company then in a revenue generating role, which would mean that you might not get the same first class treatment as you might at Microsoft.
Take it from a person who wanted to be in investment banking as a software developer. It's very ridiculous the amount of work software does. It not just cost effective tool. Everyone is using software to actively generate revenue but still you will get treated as a second class citizens because of norm go to ms. And if you still want to join a investment bank later you can do that with higher position. 400 USD is nothing in grand scheme of things. A full time offer from Ms would be much much better.
Microsoft is 1000x better than Blackstone
