Blind = Stress, going to uninstall for awhile

I think I will be uninstalling this app. One of the things I picked up this cyber Monday was a smart watch that has all kinds of biometric monitors. Kind of cool. Anyway, one of them is a stress meter. Apparently it works by measuring the interval between heart beats and there are characteristic patterns that indicate stress. Interestingly, it's not just rate, more stress doesn't always mean a faster pulse, it's something about the regularity of the beat. So it has a little number that goes up and down as I do different things, and a graph showing how stressed I was at different times during the day, from zero to a hundred. Online some people say that this number doesn't seem to correspond to how they feel, so it may not work for everyone, but I have to say it's been pretty accurate for me. When it tells me I'm low stress I feel pretty relaxed and when it's saying I'm very high stress I do feel tensed up with a bit of knot in my stomach. So for me it works. It has a little alarm that goes off whenever my stress level goes too high. It pops up a little suggestion that I try a relaxation exercise. The relaxation exercise doesn't seem to be too useful, but when the reminder goes off I do tend to feel pretty stressed. Didn't realize before which things during my day were causing stress. Actually figured it was probably work related, and some of it is. But it's identified a bunch of things in my life that create a LOT of stress that I don't think really are adding any value. Work stress is work stress, I'm getting stuff done, sometimes there are disagreements, etc., that's life. But some really pointless stuff causes stress too. Blind is one of those things. The stress alarm keeps going off when I'm using blind. Either arguing with some troll, or reading about some layoff, or drama in somebody's work, or about some company policy no one likes, or someone's interview experience. I guess when I'm reading about shit that happened to others it calls up my own memories of similar things that once happened to me, I remember going to interviews, recall things I said, stressful situations of my own, and relive them a little, or remember to worry about something related, or whatever. Or just get angry that someone is WRONG on the internet. You know how it is. Blind overall is a very NEGATIVE place, that is mostly people complaining about stuff, worrying about stuff, arguing about stuff, or whatever. And my little stress meter keeps going off every time I'm in this app. Never realized it before, but it's actually the truth, at least for me. This was very enlightening for me to learn that there are actually physiological measurements that show I react to this stuff, even if only momentarily. Unlike work related stress I'm not sure what I'm getting out of blind related stress. Nothing I suspect. I don't think I'm going to leave and never come back. I think I'll have a question one day or something and come back to find out or search. But I'll make sure there's a reason, and install the app for a purpose. Until then I'm going to try uninstalling for awhile and see if the little stress meter goes off less often.

Sounds like it’s measuring HRV. I wish Apple Watch measured it more often.

I think you built your stress triggers at Amazon. Blind is merely triggering those markers. If you run from a problem, it will follow you all your life. Face it. Understand it. Solve it.

Surprisingly most of the things that cause stress in my day aren't strictly work related. Some certainly are, and they are the things you would expect. Went to a meeting last week where there were some pretty contradictory opinions about what we should be doing next and when I was explaining my position the little stress meter went off. But like I said in the OP, a lot of stress comes from some pretty pointless sources. I didn't do any work this weekend, I was out with friends yesterday and mostly just home today. Alarm didn't go off much yesterday. Numbers went up a bit when my wife started telling our friend an embarrassing story, but yesterday's got a pretty clean graph. Today I spent most of the day at home, with a few errands here and there. Guess what? Today had a bunch of alarms. Not from checking my work email, which I did a few times today, but from blind. Being home with not too much to do I spent some time "relaxing" on the couch surfing stuff on my phone, reading different forums, and here on blind. And that caused stress--supposedly while relaxing on a couch. So. I think I don't need that.

Are you using an Iwatch?

I don’t think stress is inherently bad. Sure being so stressed you can’t sleep for months takes a toll, but stress in short bursts might just be what you need to do LC questions or send that negotiation email.

I see it as a price. Is it worth it for an LC question, or the negotiation email? Yes! But looking back at my day I think I should have found something more relaxing to do while relaxing on the couch.

The LPs are what make you most stressful, uninstall them from your brain.

This is a perfect native ad for the watch. Now just sell me the watch.
