Hi community, first time writing a post. I got 2 offers: Bloomberg - 260k base + 70k bonus + signon 25k + relocation package to NYC. Another company - 180k base + 15% bonus + 320k RSUs/4 yrs + signon 40k with remote option that will reduce base (other parts will remain unchanged). YOE: 11 Initially thought NYC would be ok, but then personal situation changed. I asked recruiter if Bloomberg would be open to let me stay remote past covid of course contingent on my high performance with me traveling to NYC regularly. Obviously it's a NO, they don't want to set precedent. Asking Bloomberg community if there are any conversation regarding letting folks working remotely past covid. #remotework #Bloomberg #bloombergoffer #bloomberg
Internally, nobody thinks remote will be an option past COVID. Mike and the rest of the leadership team are very vocal about how being in-office helps innovation. Since COVID didn’t change their minds about that, I don’t think anything will.
They are very family friendly and flexible in that 2 days WFH was standard even pre covid. They’d however not do Fully remote for sure or so it seems from emails.
As someone who has worked at BBG for 4 years, I've never heard 2 days WFH to be standard. Have never seen it any team either. I know you can create a plan like that if you have approval from HR but in no way is it standard or common.
No fully remote. Had team members arrange 1 WFH day weekly before covid. There have also been people who worked remotely/from a remote office and traveled to Bloomberg NY regularly, but this came later in their career, after proving themselves and/or making friends higher up. I don't think this will be your case...
Take the Bloomberg offer, re evaluate later. Don't think anyone will be forced in 2021.
Thanks, BB said they can be flexible and not force me to move to NY so that doesn't get me in trouble with the landlord/child's school, etc. But the signal is strong that they would want me in NY in 2021.
Don't worry about it, better ask for forgiveness than permission
We will never be full remote. The entire office is open for any that wants to come in. Once covid is over everyone will be back. All senior leadership is always in the office almost daily. Even Mike himself.
That is a great offer. Is that TL or IC
Thank you! IC senior level. Moving from pricipal/staff level.
Great offer congrats again
BBG will never go fully remote. Too old school mgmt.
Real talk, why do the BB TCs people talk about on blind not match the distribution on levels.fyi?
I was surprised to see numbers on levels.fyi. I am not the smartest engineer and seeing that I got the top comp (based on levels.fyi) was very surprising. My theory is that most highly paid BB employees are not on blind and not checking out levels.fyi they just live their lives without worrying about updating linkedin. Most people I met worked at BB >10 yrs so called “lifers”.
Two things: 1. There's no proper IC track in Bloomberg and everyone with > 3 years experience is just classified as Senior Software Engineer. This makes it hard to track expected TC at different levels. 2. Unless you are a stellar IC at Bloomberg its hard to grow beyond 300k as an IC. Your growth will slow down around that.
No permanent remote option pst covid for Bloomberg. There will likely be more unofficial flex around wfh but it will never be permanent
IMO there will never be a permanent remote option. If there ever was, though, your compensation would be adjusted accordingly like with the other offer.
I'd be OK for comp adjustment. I loved the team at Bloomberg but this remote option is critical.
I am interested to hear from other BB employees as I am fairly new. But the “in office” culture seems particularly important to the company, to the point we have already opened most offices for people willing to come back. I anticipate everyone being back in the office early next year.
