A warning to all that are considering Bloomberg: Starting October 18, there will be huge pressure from management to return to office 3 days a week. Meanwhile -- running the function 'NTFY' on the Bloomberg Terminal shows that the # of COVID cases of the (very few) employees that are choosing to go in, is greatly increasing. Management is also taking great leaps to hide the attrition data from everyone. And vaccination rates remain unclear. Please make anyone who is considering joining us aware. I am worried for our loved ones. #returntooffice #bloomberg
Is the culture at Bloomberg and upper leadership old school there?
I don't think so actually. I've worked at a startup that went thru IPO, feels pretty similar in culture. Which is why this RTO move is baffling to me.
Kind of a mix... Lots of oldschool mentality at the top, but oldschool direct-TL styles are being reigned in by a more modern HR.
Nothing like that has been told to us
?? see the internal thread titled 'What are YOUR current RTO orders?' also there was a thread from summer: 'Delta Outbreak at Lex office?'
All it really takes for the company to fall apart is several top 10%ers leaving. And if you’re top 10% you probably have recruiters constantly knocking on your door with potential 50% comp increases. Company is going to be in a tough situation
I personally will be fine, turned down 4 offers to join and have a high net worth. Obviously I can redo the previous process and jump ship. But I wanted to stay longer + dislike the effect it's having on my colleagues.
@letslc. Curious, can you tell us what’s your high ballpark net worth?
Companies have been doing great with wfh. I dont understand this need of having people in the office, wasting time commuting.
Bloomberg invented the "open office" BS, they had everyone sitting behind the small desks in a big room before FB even had blueprints for their Bullpen HQ. My theory is that the company's namesake gets a kick seeing all his minions being busy around him.
There are people who like working in an office @Facebook, working from home all the time is why I’m trying to jump ship
Honestly we have been told don't need to come back till next year. It's completely optional
Bloomberg seems to be hiring a lot right now, I see a lot of postings on LinkedIn, wonder if this is why
Which org op?
From what I've seen Bloomberg is roughly tripling our new hire rates. Any college grads that don't mind NYC CoL for a bit, now is a good time to try BB. That being said everything in this post is accurate. October 18th is hybrid RTO with some non-ENG departments already in the office. It's uncertain if full RTO will be enforced in the future.
Is BB pretty much strictly in NYC? No other offices?
Bloomberg has a ton of offices actually but the bulk of US hires are in one of three main NYC offices. There's a handful of teams in NJ as well and two smaller satellite offices in San Francisco and Seattle.
The decision is right from the top. And yes, it is Oct 18th. The intention is to revive NYC. The leadership must have considered all ramifications and is well prepared for consequences. If wfh is the top priority, then bb is not a good choice. The semi structured work environment does need in person interaction to work well, specially for onboarding.

Any idea what the motivation is behind the push?
Not sure, my manager is against it but they have no choice but to comply.
