Background: 3 YoE at Google Bloomberg offer: ~350k TC (230k salary, 60k annual bonus, 50k signing bonus per year for 2 years, 30k relo) This is not for a core Bloomberg team but is for one of their smaller 'start up' divisions. Located in NY. Google: ~300k TC (135k salary, 120 GSUs/year, normal 15-20% target bonus) Located in Seattle. In Cloud since joining. Feeling out the waters here to see if anyone has had experience with Bloomberg's offers or work culture. Any thought on Bloomberg's work culture and how it compares to Google?
Wow!! $300k with 3 yrs exp. Go with Google
Especially in Seattle
Are you a PhD
Nope, Master's
Wow š
Seems really high for 3yoe.
You should ask what devs right out of college are making. You might be shocked.
Seriously lolš
Try switching orgs/teams in google if you are not happy. Only reason I would pick Bloomberg is if you get more responsibility like leading a new project or ownership etc. That might be harder to get at google. I would poke around other startups as well if that's what you are looking for.
Seems like a lot of GSUs at this level. Did you negotiate a large new hire grant? If yes, keep in mind the cliff that is coming.
Yeah that's the case. The cliff(and more leadership chances in the smaller Bloomberg org) are some of the major factors rn
How do people deal with the cliff? Do they just accept it!?
what kind of experience you had to land these positions?
Porn
Mostly distributed systems/backend experience (papers, research when I was in school). Good schools for grad and undergrad as well.
I would go to Google in your situation due to the insane taxes in NY (and somewhat higher housing costs). No state income tax is one of the great things about the Seattle area.
Stay at google. Stock makes a difference. Iāve been here less than 6 mo and stock is already like 15% over my grant price. Your sign on cliff is big as others have noted. Not to mention income tax and CoL difference between Seattle and Nyc. Iām from Nyc. I know.
You are definitely clueless
