Received an offer from Bloomberg today for Sr. Software Engineer in NYC. Note that this is what I was told as part of the verbal offer TC: $250k Base: $205k Bonus: $45k Relocation: $10k (along with temp housing, flight expenses, packers, and movers service, Real state agent for finding the apartment) Is this a good offer or there is a negotiation window? I was expecting a joining bonus as well but got the info from HR that Blomberg stopped providing the JB and I have seen posts on Blind where people claimed that they received a good joining bonus. So what should I do for JB? I like to go out and party and eat out but not every day so would $250k be enough for a decent life in NYC with savings? Current TC: 130k YOE: 6yrs I am quite excited as the new TC is almost double as compared to my current TC and then the location is also better than the Bay area, but I think I can bump it to at least 270-275k. Any suggestions? Any tips? Any help is appreciated. Edit: So, finally signed the offer. In the first call, the recruiter offered $240k ($200k base and $40k bonus) and I quote my expectation as $270k TC, so in a couple of days recruiter came back with an improved offer of $250k ($205k base + $45k bonus), I negotiate with the recruiter again and at last, she came back with a more improved offer of $265k ($220k base + $45k bonus). Thanks to all Blind folks to help me in this negotiation process. Excited to join Bloomberg in a couple of months. Not sure if it's still low, but it is definitely a lot better than what I am currently making (actually doubled) and on top of that the location in NYC where I always wanted to move. So I believe the negotiation went in my favor Current TC: $130k ($122k base + $8k Bonus) 1st year New TC: $265k ($220k base + $45k bonus) + $10k relocation YOE - 5 years 5 months full time + 1 year 3 months part-time #bloomberg #offer
You're doubling your compensation so I would bite personally
I know it's a huge thing for me to get the doubled compensation. I will accept it no matter what but thinking about giving negotiation a try bump it a little bit if it can. Just have a fear that if I do the negotiation, they might rescind the offer. are you saying I should not negotiate and just accept the offer?
You should always negotiate. Most of the time, companies will not give you the highest that theyโre willing to offer right away and you can easily get much more (definitely helps if you have competing offers, but even then itโs not always necessary).
Bloomberg doesnโt give out RSU and bonus varies. They also require employees to be on-site for >= 3times a week. Thereโs better companies out there imo.
As compared to my current TC and having no other offer, I guess for the time being this is better.
I had $250k + $30k sign on very recently fwiw, 2 YOE. With a competing offer, you can definitely get more
What was the base/bonus?
210 + 40
I canโt speak for Bloomberg but Iโve lived comfortably in NYC way back since I was still making $115k TC. I donโt know how extravagant you are looking to get but 250 is enough to live very comfortably in NYC
I have been able to save $50k every year after tax, living expenses and trips here in bay area (my current TC is 130k). So from your comment, I think $250k would be enough to have comfortable life along with savings.
Yeah if you can live on 130k in the bay and save 50k, you will be more than fine in NYC with that pay. I live pretty well on ~120k here but my savings are much lower that yours
Wow I thought Bloomberg offered more? The base is decent but no signing bonus/equity kinda sucks.
Bloomberg is a private company, so RSU is out of the picture and they don't give equity. I am just thinking about a signing bonus, If I can get that, that would be perfect but don't know how to approach that or leverage that to get the bump in base pay.
Do you have any competing offers/other interviews? I think having some sort of leverage would help a lot with negotiation.
