Looks like Bloomberg has big band for senior engineer and that’s the ceiling. And the TC is just so so. Wondering anyone interviewed with Bloomberg or work there, is it still worth talking to them given the title and TC doesn’t look significant?
yep tc is so trash less than 2 bananas dont come not worth it
If you value job security and amazing WLB, then yes. Salary is not faang but it's cash and not bad
Low raises once you hit Senior SWE, unless you come from FAANG or some unicorn. Raises are inflation adjustments, unless you are a top performer (which 90% of people aren’t since it’s stack ranked)
Only cash compensation, decently high TC even though it's lesser than FAANG, incredible job security, incredible WLB and not a pip factory. I'll take the slightly lower all cash compensation for the sanity and peace of mind. But to each their own.
^^^ this.
You will stop learning at BBG. The pace at which things are done BBG is slow and no one seems to have a clear idea of what is going on. Tools stack sucks. Communication is through terminal(internal software) which is again a pain and boring. Most teams are using c++ and internal service which are far from anything related to open source and cloud. Average salary, wlb and job security but feels like you are working with your grandfather with years old tech.
Actual bbg employee here. Most of this is garbage. But yes, salary is not the highest but you will have a life outside of work and almost no chance of getting fired. Some people value that.
New joinee at Bloomberg here. 1) pace: I feel this depends on the team. My team is pretty decently paced and has very clear goals and objectives that are attainable without being worked like a slave 2) tool stack is actually amazing. I don't even know where you got that information from 3) terminal I agree is an odd choice of tool for doing everything, but frankly it just takes getting used to. After that it just becomes second nature (and sometimes even more efficient) 4) most teams use python and typescript. There are a lot of c++ components but saying that most engineers are developing in c++ is just straight up false 5) average salary yes, but it's best in class wlb and job security. 6) Bloomberg also adapts immediately to new versions of python with day 1 support for internal libraries. The same goes for new frameworks and standards in other languages. So please pipe down with the mis-information.
