How have you or do you deal with a boss that doesn’t listen? ex: 1. asks for executive summary, then asks question about an item that is clearly bulleted 2. asks about status of x of y initiative after being briefed less than 45 minutes prior 3. during ELT meetings will speak, then when finished begins texting or slacking people outside of meeting 4. undermines definex project/program/initiative goals by going outside channel to “accommodate” asks that weren’t in original scope 5. told that X team needs more reinforcement in training or else Y should happen, a f*ckin PIP would be easy enough; refuses to support it because it would “lower morale” Thoughts? Suggestions? This sh*t is constant and if the market didn’t suck I’d be shopping for a new spot, but when ELT is awful and the market is too, I feel stuck. #hrissues #humanresources #softwareadvice #peopleoperations #leadershipprinciples #help
Solid. Very solid. 👆🏻👍🏼
Also if the other person seem to be distracted or is texting or answering or doing something, stop talking and stare at them until they turn to you (and a reasonable person will apologize). Do it a couple times and he/she will never do it again. The key is to be able to be ok with the awkward silence. If he/she says continue while I do something else, tell them you’ll comeback later when they have time and you’ll wait. You are essentially conditioning them to treat you better. (Akin to giving a treat to a kid every time they do something we want them to).
Word. Can’t wait to see how this plays out over Zoom lol. “Is he frozen?” “No, just waiting...” haha. Thx again. Let’s see how it goes.

What are some things that you can control? Email him the points, over communicate, make sure the message is received as intended, give feedback supported by examples, document examples. Talk to peers, talk to skip, talk to managers peers. DONT complain. Ask for advice without mentioning the issue. E.g. “hey, how do you best work with the manager” - this is for your peers. With managers peers, skip etc you’ll have to build rapport first and then look for signs of them broaching this topic. You can say that you are finding it difficult to make a point or ask them what advice they have to help you communicate better.
