I am in the worst possible situation with very few options left. My PERM finally got approved after more than a year of processing and waiting. I was hoping my I-140 gets filed promptly and approved in a couple of weeks as I was ready to pay the premium fees. But Broadcom halted all immigration assistance abruptly. I have around one year left until my 6 year H1B cap expires and I am left with no options but to head back home. I have no issues with going back but it’s just that I wanted to save a little more before heading back. I have no motivation to interview cause I don’t think any employer would hire me with one year left on my H1B cap. Even if I were hired by a company that did my PERM on day 1, the recruitment would take at least a few months and I don’t think they would be able to file my PERM on time to get the 7th year extension.
I believe with perm approved you can file for H1B extension in 1 yr increments tikl i140 is approved. Then you can extend by 3 yr increments. You can also jump to F1 and Work on Day 1 CPT. Just some options. Not sure what you would want to do. Immigration here sucks. On the flip side, you can just go to NY pretend to be mute and pretend to be an illegal immigrant you will EAD and Cash. Lol
Op mentioned VMware/broadcom is not filing for h1 extensions either
Genius idea from Broadcom, layoff without severance
File EB2 NIW. You dont need broadfuckingcom's backing for that.
Did free evaluations with a couple of laws firms. They don’t recommend.
Why do they not recommend ?
can you ask them if it would be possible to use their perm and file i-140 and that you are willing to bear the legal costs for this. i140 should be approved in 2weeks anyways. can you ask them about it? maybe try pursuing this somehow? email ceo or someone?
I am seriously trying my best to get it approved. Legally, an employee cannot pay for I-140 lawyer fees but I am ready to pay for premium.
all the best. don’t give up hope!
@OP same situation but I got laid off. What are you doi ng about it and any options you can suggest from yiu research?
Hi @op today some people got an email that their H-1B will be extended. Most of them have staff in their titles. Did you also get such email?
I got an exception
@avgdawg87 In the exact same situation but perm is not approved yet. Are you staff and above? How did you get an exception?
@avgdawg87 what happened to your perm/i140? Did you get approval for i140 application? What are you hearing when will they start?
I got an exception.
Are you p5 and above? Which division?
hey op, how did you get the exception? If someone hasn’t received an exception yet, does that mean they will never get it in Broadcom? Or does the company just send the exceptions one by one gradually?
I believe exceptions are being sent in batches and it is mostly BU dependent. Unless you’re not Staff or above and working on a business critical project, getting an exception would be hard.
Emmm I am working on business critical prj but I am just a senior…..not sure if I will be able to get the exception, my manager is on vacation until next month😞 really want to get my i140/PD secured….otherwise it will take me many years again to get a PD in other companies….anyway, congrats for you!

With approved perm, I think you can get 1 year H1B increments. Isn’t that the case?
They’re not filling H1B extensions. I don’t think PERM is transferable to another employer.
Wtf 😳
