Peaceful Protest Hasn’t Worked and Has Been Met With Aggression.
I'm currently an ICB5/Principal based out of Bay Area. TC: 330K, but no bonus this year(?) and salary is pitifully low (140K) Manager has told me my salary is woefully low - they are trying to increase it but can only do 3-5% every year, but no raises this year anyway- LOL. Said no chance to ICB6, even though all my other coworkers are ICB6/7. I own several key IP blocks used across multiple BUs, contribute to standards' bodies, interface with other groups' PhD architects(don't have a PhD myself), so I figure that's gotta be worth more than 140K? What is the logical next step in the career if I jump ship? I don't want to go to Apple. Microsoft Azure / Facebook Oculus in Redmond seem interesting to me. I wouldn't mind a change of scenery. I'm tired of CA being constantly on fire/breathing smoke, power being turned off, and the high state taxes. The only thing is I haven't interviewed in a decade, so I'm chicken-shit about that. There's also the unwritten rule of "don't do HW at a SW company". #hardware #interview #semiconductor
Why not considering Apple? If you're really hesitant to do HW at a SW company maybe try Nvidia? They're the only ones besides FANGM who can hope to match your current comp in HW.
Apple is a SW company ?
YoE?

Wait a year. When stocks bottom, make the switch.
Hard for non SW to match your TC... gotta open up a bit

ROFL. You can't afford him.
It's easy to get 330k at qualcomm as sr staff. I don't think broadcom principal can get qualcomm principal, though.
Give FB redmond a try
OMG - r u my lost twin. In the same boat - happy with my present TC, but want to figure what to do next. I too am ic5 at 13 yrs experience and don’t want to go to apple
Haha. I bet you have a higher salary than me at least!
one more ic5 in exact same situation
@op , have u considered switching groups? This way u keep ur RSUs, though no immediate bump in base pay.
Are you two the only engineers left at Broadcom after the layoffs? 😂
Look who is talking about layoffs ☺️☺️
TC 330K? So what if the base low?
Bonus contributes 40K to 50K to TC -- depends on performance of BU. We got 0 last year, and there are rumors it's another goose egg year.
without bonus, it is still decent rsu. Not too bad. NV may match or boost your TC beyond fang.
