I will start my job very soon in a big tech company. My gf has been working at a big tech company for a year. We moved from another country to US. We are thinking about buying a house eventually. We are thinking about find a place around 600-700k. We are thinking about getting a townhouse and rent out some rooms, but that’s optional. We are looking for new constructions (2017-2019). We work in Bellevue, near Factoria. Do you have any recommendations? Do you also have tips to acquire good credit history ASAP? We are new here, so we dont have credit history in the US. Having good credit history is helpful to get lower interest rate with the mortgage.
Curious, you’re buying a house with a girlfriend? That sounds like it’ll get complicated eventually
Yes, why?
Well, do you ever plan to break up? Are you guys committing the same payment towards the mortgage? Will both your names be on the deed?
I've not been actively in the real estate market here, but I think your budget is too small to purchase a townhouse with spare rooms to rent out.
New construction for 600-700k? Can't imagine you'll get anything bigger than 1200 sq. ft.
What about 600-800k then?
You mean 800k? That's better sure, but it really depends on how much sq. ft. you want.
Remember that in real estate the most important thing is location.
TC?
Around 150k for both of us
150k combined or each one of u makes 150k?
Please get married before you buy a house. If you split up after marriage the divorce courts can help divide assets like a house. If you split up without getting married it is a lot more complicated.
In short: don't. Rent for several years until you know that you want to stay and then which neighborhood you prefer. Never buy new construction in that price range as it will be incredibly low quality. Your price range is likely too low regardless so save for a couple of years. Finally don't buy a house with a gf and if you must and are splitting it 50/50 get it in writing. Welcome to the US! Hope you enjoy seattle!

I live near Factoria. I think there is a lot of new construction north of here but still east of the 405. Probably better checking a real estate website for pricing. Your range on the high end seems ok for townhouses in general , but maybe not for new construction.....can't comment on credit rating. You might also consider looking east at Issaquah. Its not cheap but cheaper than Bellevue. Btw, what company?
Don’t buy now. It’s wasting money.
