ByteDance/Alibaba china offer
Currently Amazon L5 with 270k TC. ByteDance China offers 2-2 with approximately 145k TC. Alibaba China offers P6 with approximately 90k TC. Worth the jump considering career prospect? Interviews at ByteDance and Alibaba were super hard (system design heavy). Alibaba recruiter straight out said I am overpaid for my 4.5 YOE.
Why would you go from 270k TC to 145k TC?
I don't know much about TC in China. Thought about having fun there if it doesn't hurt career prospects too much.
To get China cost of living. OP you’ll live fine on 145k in China
You should negotiate a P7 offer from Alibaba
My interviewer was a P7, and he crushed me with his knowledge on experience. I cannot really negotiate based on interview performance.

Alibaba recruiter says P7 is senior and tech lead of a team. She expects L6 to map to P7.
This is bullshitting. Senior level maps to p8 and above otherwise no one would join. So L5 should at least be P7
OP, I am Chinese and I wouldn't recommend you go. Chinese offices are 996 and I'm guessing any promos would be much harder given the sheer number of smart hardworking CS graduates. If you are really interested in going to China, I'd get to at least L6 at Amazon and get a more senior offer. Why don't you go to bytedance in the bay area, it seems like they pay well there

9am - 9pm 6 days a week. I think it'll be exciting. I was personally interested in working in China but didn't think it was worth the opportunity cost. Depends on your values
I’m Chinese and the bytedance is no brainer choice. Every current 985 universities graduates would choose BD over Ali without hesitation. Better food and benefits, less Ali HRBP shit.

That’s terrible. It is very expensive to live a good life in China. Apartments, cars, foreign goods, etc are all very expensive and taxes are high.

Tell Alibaba recruiter to go fuck Gerard and her shit tc. You’re worth all of your tc. Don’t let some stupid ass recruiter(literally the most insignificant person in the tech hierarchy) tell your what you’re worth.
You don't have to join a Chinese company to explore living in a different country. Keep your current TC and take a fun trip there after Corona is over.
