Hey guys, currently working as Senior SDE at John Deere in Iowa. It is a stable company buy cannot make a lot of money lol and i want to move to a bigger city and buy a home there and settle. I am 29 years old. As my PERM is still in progress i have around 1.5 years to prepare for faang and get a job there. Given the volatility in faang do you guys think it is a good advice if i work towards that goal ? What would you guys do if you were in my shoes. I know i get mixed answers, i just looking to hear multiple opinions from people who know better than me. YOE: 5 TC: 160k #engineering #software #swe #Faang
Isn't 160k in Iowa like 300k valley? You can afford a pretty big houseover there
Stay at Deere for now and build yourself a nest egg. You’re still young enough to pursue more money in some years time. No need to rush into anything in this job market
This is the way
Stay at Deere till you get PERM, I-140 and then 6 months so your PD is locked. Then think about jumping. 160k TC you are good to buy a good house in low cost iowa.
Thanks guys
This is easy - prepare for faang and stay at Deere until you gotta leave. Also HCOL areas milk you for all you’re worth. You have to budget and save like crazy to get traction. Everyone moves out of SV at some point or settles for a crappy $mm house with a huge commute. Depends on just how much life and wellbeing you want to sacrifice to mammon
Stay at deere if the work life balance is pretty good focus on a side hustle or company to net some more profit while there. This current market sucks and i dont think fanng will remain top companies in a few years
Stay at Deere
