26M, 4 YOE as Software Engineer at Accenture & founded a tech services startup, Currently in my 2nd year MBA(Business Technologies | Major : Marketing & Strategy, Minor : Supply Chain) at CMU-Tepper, In F1 Visa eligible for OPT extension till Aug 2027, Willing to relocate anywhere in US Despite applying to over 1000 firms for PM and PMM roles via handshake, university 12twenty, LinkedIn & Glassdoor during my internship, I received interview invites only from Amazon and a startup. Unfortunately, even after successfully clearing Amazon's Sr. PMT Internship interview, got an incline email for internship but after citing headcount, they sent email about hiring freeze dashed my hopes and they unable to take me in. I proceeded to intern at the startup, gained valuable experience in GTM Strategy. Looking ahead to securing a FT position, I am concerned about landing a PM/PMM role in companies that sponsor H1b visas. I have diligently followed approaches like tailoring my resume to JDs, reaching out to hiring managers before applying, and networking with employees. However, given that I lack significant connections in the US and am the first from my family to be in the US, I am seeking advice on how to navigate the current struggling market scenario to secure interviews and referrals for companies sponsoring h1b for product & strategy roles for the MBA grad. Thanks in advance for your guidance. #pm #product #productmanager #productmarketing #pmm #productmanagement #google #spotify #meta #dropbox #stripe #sap #salesforce #netflix #amazon #adobe #microsoft #cisco #intel #stripe #qualcomm #uber #lyft #doordash #grubhub #EY #Walmart #citibank #ArgoAI #asana #atlassian #audible #bloomberg #box #brex #bytedance #calendy #confluent #databricks #datadog #deloitte #discord #disney #docusign #doordash #figma #github #gitlab #goldmansachs #grammarly #hashicorp #hulu #instacart #intuit #iterable #janestreet #linkedin #lyft #McKinsey #mongodb #morganstanley #netflix #nuro #okta #opencv #palantir #paloaltonetworks #paypal #pinterest #purestorage #reddit #ripple #Rippling #roblox #roku #ScaleAI #servicenow #shopify #slack #snowflake #splunk #spotify #twilio #twitch #twitter #twosigma #uber #udemy #workday #zoom #zoox #google #waymo #cruise #salesforce #nvidia #oracle #airbnb #meta #citadel #snap #citadel #intel #ey #tableau #tiktok #openai #lowe’s #homedepot #tech

First thing I’d suggest is to keep options open. I read most people who got an incline email received a job offer last week. Not sure if you got one! Also, PM is an incredibly difficult nut to crack considering companies are moving away from this role (ex snap and Airbnb). Have you thought of doing consulting or supply chain? There may be more openings there compared to PM at this point. PMM is an even harder nut to crack not because of the role, but the desire for a H1B. Companies rarely sponsor for this role. Family and connections mean very little in tech tbh. If you have a good profile, you’ll get a call, but if your only PM experience is a 10 week project at Amazon, it’s a lot harder to get someone to sponsor you. I’m not trying to discourage you, but rather suggesting you to think broad, don’t limit yourself to the domain or the country and focus on getting a job.
Thanks you for sharing your insights. I wanted to clarify that I received an internship incline email after interviews and unfortunately, Amazon rejected my application due to a hiring freeze after incline email. As a result, I pursued an internship with a startup. While my passion lies in product roles, considering the current job market and my minor in Supply Chain, I've decided to broaden my focus. I'll start tailoring my resume for Supply Chain positions and actively apply in that domain. I appreciate your time and advice. Thanks again!
