Calculating Stocks

1. Are you calculating TC with the total value of stocks per year? 2. When you look at an offer do you calculate the stock option offer as yearly or total amount? Current TC: 290 YOE: 6

Google NYC42 May 19, 2019

TC is always a yearly amount. Let’s say you’ve got 150k base, 10% bonus and 400k in RSU over 4 years. Your TC is 150 + 15 + 400/4 = 265k

That’s what is called inflated TC, you should always calculate TC at the grant date. Even for refreshers the calculations have to be on grant date. Actual TC is base + bonus + rsu/4 @ grant date + refreshers-rsu for every grant date but people on blind believe in inflated TC

What about companies like amazon that don’t vest their stock equally over 4 years? Does the same formula still apply?

OpenTable Meliodas May 19, 2019

No, then you would use the appropriate formula for the vesting schedule. TC should match up with what appears on your W-2 at the end of the year.

I’m calculating my tc with the future value of stocks that have been award in the past. Jfc it’s not that hard man.

Here’s why I asked: Someone said I should ask for 100k worth of RSUs. Did they mean per year or over 4 years?

Microsoft Chad TCock May 19, 2019

100k over 4 years or 25k per year unless specified otherwise. This is the standard way to talk about rsu.
