if it’s a lot of money of capital gains you may get a letter from the IRS a couple years later asking you to pay up then you have to file an amended return. also if you have some capital losses you might want to file and amended return to get some money back!
I forgot to include one from 2020 and IRS sent me a bill for like $7K. I worked with my tax guy to fix it but I had to pay extra
You will pay taxes and penalty. Get to it.
