California’s Paradox: if Immigration Creates Wealth, Why is California Poor?

https://youtu.be/pr00NcKr6mg Not to disparage immigrants at all, but Super important for all liberal Californians to understand. The ramifications have created a socity with more inequality than Mexico and as much per capita on welfare as Nordic countries. Is this what we wanted?

California is poor? You know where FANG is at right?

LinkedIn bluiffy Sep 6, 2019

Fang is not all California. The million $ houses people live in are mostly owned by banks.

Uber domin8 Sep 6, 2019

😂😂😂

LinkedIn cd- Sep 6, 2019

Huh? How is California poor?

Google monrow Sep 6, 2019

Because everybody drives a Prius and not lambos.

LinkedIn cd- Sep 6, 2019

I guess that makes Dubai rich.

Lyft done2 OP Sep 6, 2019

Because one in five Californians live in poverty? Because we have the highest homelessness rate in the country, and perhaps the world? Have you guys ever Been to California?

LinkedIn cd- Sep 6, 2019

I guess we are that “dumb”. Poverty rate only reflects wealth inequality, not actually poor. All the tech workers here are all a contributing factor of this inequality. Immigrants does creates wealth, as many of the tech companies are created by first and second generation of immigrants. But that does not means the wealth has to be distributed evenly.

It’s twice the national average man it’s the top in the country. We are already the worst we already have the crown

Monono Sep 6, 2019

It's not what I want. It's why Californians voted in Gavin Newsom to "solve the housing crisis". The hold that NIMBYS have on this state is ridiculous. Baby Boomers are pretty much extorting the wealth out of the state.

Lyft done2 OP Sep 6, 2019

I don’t think our elections in ca are even valid anymore. You realize that California was forced to take over 1 million fake voters off their roles just months ago. They were in play in 2016, and 2018. Newson is also Pelosi’s nephew. But the median never mentions this

Lyft done2 OP Sep 6, 2019

Also, you obviously haven’t watch the video if you’re still looking for boogiemen at boomers. The middle class boomers have mostly left the state man

Apple onlinenow Sep 6, 2019

Lot of economists ITT.

OpenTable Meliodas Sep 6, 2019

California isn’t poor. It has a budget surplus larger than the national spending of some countries.

Lyft done2 OP Sep 6, 2019

If you think California budget is sustainable I’ve got a couple great bridges to sell you

OpenTable Meliodas Sep 6, 2019

And yet, the surplus is there.

Microsoft UMbR31 Sep 6, 2019

There are two kinds of foreigners: one that creates wealth and one that sucks up national resources. What if I told you American laws systematically deny the wealth-creating-foreigners any opportunity to immigrate at all? We all know this, it is by design.

Lyft done2 OP Sep 6, 2019

Truth bomb

OpenTable Meliodas Sep 6, 2019

That is true of all economic actors, it isn’t specific to foreigners. And, I would say your assertion is wrong, America has visa programs for wealth creators. It is called the EB-5 visa.

PayPal 1GFLOP Sep 6, 2019

Nothing like Alabama or Mississippi

Lyft done2 OP Sep 6, 2019

We have a higher poverty rate And higher income inequality. We also have much higher tax rates. And welfare. So you’re right. These three states are very similar in there that they are the three lowest average IQs in the country

Apple >{$^]##%[ Sep 6, 2019

Your premise is wrong. Immigration does not create wealth. The USA is populated almost entirely by immigrants and their descendants; we can see what a shithole we are now in 2019, after 400 years of unyeliding immigration. Compare that to China, which has almost no immigrants.

Lyft done2 OP Sep 6, 2019

Sure On a long enough time span everyone’s an immigrant. That’s a really mindless point and it doesn’t get you off the hook of explaining the ramifications of the policy in California over the last 30 years.

Credit Karma EllisDee25 Sep 6, 2019

It’s not a paradox, it’s called wealth inequality. The US is rich, but keeps many people in poverty.

Lyft done2 OP Sep 6, 2019

But we’re comparing states. Why does California have so much more Poverty? Why does California have so much more inequality? Why is the middle class leaving California at such high rates? This is all relative to other states so we can actually have a meaningful conversation

Credit Karma EllisDee25 Sep 6, 2019

Poverty where and for whom? Urban developers, large California growers, Target/Walmart... or agricultural workers, logistics workers, retail workers, renters? California is booming for Gavin Newsom and Tech bosses.
