Hello Indeeders! Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated! HAHAHAHAHAHA :D Now that I've gotten my Indeed RSU vest and LTIP payout, I don't give a damn to speak up. And now that I'm back from vacation to see Indeed having done layoffs, I am happy to share with you that I survived both Indeed and Google's layoffs! YES, I'm still employed at Indeed as my J2, working only 5-10 hours per week because I've automated so much of the pointless work that happens at Indeed (thank the heavens for ChatGPT and Indeed incompetence), while working Google as my J1 for months now, working 30-40 hours per week. Google isn't perfect but it's freaking light years ahead of Indeed in every possible measure. I don't care to expend energy writing on Indeed Blind anymore because I actually have a half interesting project going on at big G. My sincerest condolences to those who were laid off at Indeed. What I'm about to write isn't to rub things in the faces of those laid off, because (most of) you aren't to blame for what happened at Indeed. Instead, I'm here to relish that basically every freaking thing I said about Indeed ended up being true: #1. Indeed SLT were complete idiots for overhiring throughout 2022 when everyone else was doing hiring freezes, #2. ENT/SMB was a complete circus shitshow that is upper leadership's fault to allow rampant duplication, so it's no surprise a lot of ENT got gutted with the layoffs. That was supposed to be RM's job to set right, and now he's laughing and looking down on you while he walks away scott free grabbing the bag. #3. Stupid crazy empire building was getting out of control, and middle-manager politicians were pushing forward with meaningless projects without any oversight. Seriously freaking Indeed should be run by 5K people, not 10-15K people. Expect more layoffs... smdh #4. Product management sucked donkey balls and were glorified project managers mostly doing low-to-zero impact projects #5. Like Indeed SUX pointed out, Indeed was nickeling and diming us to death cutting bonuses and pay, but you took it like troopers up the butt because INDEED IS SUUUUUUUUCH A GRREAAAAT COMPANY! Now Indeed is practically bonus-less for the next 2 years, WFH stipend gone, who knows when promos will be reinstated. #6. SLT has no balls to take accountability for ANYTHING, and they never hold any of their asskissing VPs/SVPs responsible for problems either #7. CH is fake as hell, many of you Indeeders were gobbling up his stupid stories of his past jobs like it made him someone relatable and trustworthy, but then he threw your asses under the bus when he lied about no layoffs. #8. tberg... hahahaha I won't even get into how wrong this bootlicker was on so many levels. It's a shame that it had to get to this point, while I hated Indeed for how cruddy run a company it was, which you can all now see for yourselves, it has ended up turning out to be likeable as a J2. I mean honestly all you need to do at Indeed to work 5-10 hours a week is to: #1 Get on the right team and hope your leadership is dumb AF and doesn't do anything to keep accountability #2 Fake an agreeable, positive attitude, because Indeeders are allergic to any conflict and want to celebrate longass meetings with other teams as "great collaborations", while meanwhile you completely mentally check out of said meetings #3 Find a partner in crime who is fed up or bored with Indeed, and joke around about how you stick up for each other to cover up your coasting, and follow through with it #4 Automate as much as you can and use ChatGPT for anything written, no one cares if you write like a 5th grader at Indeed #5 Fake any stupid metrics Indeed has, like ticket count. I even have an automation script to split a Jira ticket into several Jira tickets to up ticket count. #6 If you're not leading any meetings, stop paying attention because 90% of Indeed meeting content are pointless. Sometimes you can turn your camera off or even better, run a Zoom background video recording of you looking like you're paying atttention.... it surprisingly works fine for certain meetings. For some meetings I don't even have the audio on, I just pump the audio into Whisper transcription and trigger an alert when my name is mentioned. #7 Leadership has no vision, and there are no cares for quality at all, so you can put in the least amount of effort possible for everything. As long as you steadily pump out garbage your PMs ask you for and keeping up the fake positive attitude, you're guaranteed at least Meets on your reviews. To my fellow MaryJane tokers at Indeed: keep smokin' it up in coaster paradise! Smell ya later... TC: 250k at Indeed (post-LTIP) and 350K at Google. Indeed's RSUs suck nuts
Amusing read man, keep it up. I seriously consider second job myself.
When Indeed opens back up for hiring, get a gig and do it. I have zero faith in their leadership to right the ship. It's going to be a coaster's paradise until they go bankrupt or become obsolete like Monster.com
Also: on the fence about taking the Indeed voluntary severance and giving another J2 that is getting lined up a try... or staying at Indeed and trying to make that other J2 possibility a J3 (but honestly might be pushing it)
The voluntary severance they offered is absolute doo doo if they actually want people to leave unless you’ve been around for like 8+ years and/or are a Director. You’d be better off just going on “PTO,” never coming back, and getting fired in like 3 months when they figure it out lmao
Agreed and am strongly considering this. It's just the alternate J2/potential J3 is an interesting opportunity, but if I took it on, I'd probably be doing 50-70 hours of work per week for at least a few months. Hard to have time to get stoned if working that much... tough decision :)
HOKAY
Boss can you explain how to get & work a J2 without the shit companies finding out? Greatly appreciated 👍
Find a shitty unprofessional company like Indeed that has security and process holes everywhere. I would venture a guess that most shitty two-decade old companies that have only one successful product and used the COVID free money spending spree to grow headcount like crazy will have the same type of problems. Enough money rolling in to spoil employees to be lazy enough to do a bad job at everything, including the company finding out about something like this. Horrible complacent management that simultaneously manages to have the cons of both startups and corporations, including the horrible security. On the Google side, just follow typical OE advice, and to justify some official overlap, I just told Google I wanted to start ASAP with them but had to be held back at Indeed to phase out legacy systems so would it be OK for a few weeks of overlap. They were fine with it as long as Google was the main focus, and it looks like they never checked to see the overlap has still been persisting for months.
Does this still apply? It looks like most companies are in a massive hiring freeze and not taking on any new people. FAANG has outsourced most development to other countries Any advice on how to do this in the current state of job market?
Thanks for giving me a suggestion for my j4 🤑
No one at Indeed knows when hiring will reopen. It's taken Indeed senior leadership half a year to do a reorg and theyre not even done yet. Like, wtf? It's a one product company. They're taking forever. Maybe they'll get around to a second round of layoffs this year because there's still a lotta fat to be cut. There's a voluntary severance round right now, they said if enough people took it they might open up some backfills though. Good luck 🤑
Be a backfill then get sevvy 3 months later 🤑
This is earnestly the best thing I've read since the layoffs. Thank you!
This is my J2 as well. Damn having L5 Google as J1 is my goal. Must be nice. I was laid off from J3 for cost cutting measures. But it came it shit severance :(
L4 at Google?
L5 at Google. I was supposed hit L3 at Indeed, but my promo case came up right before the SWE band and SWE 2-2 shitshow happened at the end of 2021. There is no meaningful financial incentive to climb the Indeed corporate ladder, and all you have waiting for you is writing a bunch of stupid documents or engaging in the most useless politics if you reach manager status at Indeed. Best advice I have is to keep your Indeed gig AND get another job. It's a sinking ship at Indeed anyway, you'd best be LCing and applying for stuff ASAP.
well done! But isn’t 350k a bit low for L5? Or are you remote in lcol?
Indeed is a solid company compared to most of the companies. 100 times better than Amazon if not more. Google is obviously better than Indeed. Anyways congratulations! how was your G interview? Can I message you ?
🥾😋
Hard disagree. Other companies and clients I've worked with are all light years ahead of Indeed. The only thing that Indeed's edge was supposed to be was the high pyaing LTIPs (gone now) and "friendly people culture" full of superficiality and backstabbers. I mean it doesn't get more obvious that the friendly people culture is bullshit because CH himself is doing fake as hell crying after he lied and laid off 15% of the company. The friendly people culture is cultish/organizational behavior patterns they put into place to make people believe Indeed is great, but frankly Indeed is one of the worst run shitshows I've ever been a part of. The ONE business model they have is good but they're risking tanking the company with terrible leadership that hasn't produced anything impactful in years. The only proud accomplishment of SLT of the past 5 years is vesting their LTIPs, overhiring, and laying off. The next step for many of them is probably ejecting with the golden parachute and letting the dumpster fire burn.
