As an ex IBM employee I really feel pity for the current situation of IBM. TBH, it was really the best time of my life with respect to the quality of work as well as work life balance. Then I joined the Rat Race. IBM revenue has been declining for the last 10 years. Do you think they can fight back?
It will end up like xerox and ATT
IBM's TC is too low and now they can't fix it because of wage compression and investors breathing down their throat. One whole generation of below market TC means even the middle and upper managers come from the same crop of underachievers. The good people who joined IBM when it had Google-like brand value (80s, 90s) are retiring now. They've painted themselves into a corner. Ironically, history is repeating itself. Google is going down the exact same road with increasingly lowball TCs. Just as IBM missed the Internet era, Google may have missed the AI era.
Very unlikely, if history repeats itself. I don't know a company as old as IBM which reinvented itself successful. Appearently this is just human nature. At the highest level Look at the rise and fall of empires. Is there an empire which reinvented itself after starting to decline?
I worked there as an intern in college working on IBM cloud. The office felt like a ghost town of the 80s, old server rooms and stories told by the grey bears from the early days. Super cool experience but wtf do they do? I feel like it’s a monolith that will slowly dissolve to that of bell labs
Death comes for us all.
Yes only if they are willing to make major changes … so no?
I really am in love with IBM's cognitiveclass.ai. Thank you to the team who maintains that and produces training there. Legit love your content. Learned Python from your Data Science track. Wish I could play with Watson and DB2 professionally but I'm in Azure world using MS Stack.
IBM will never die because of mainframe But that’s all IBM will ever be and a boomer consulting shop
It will bounce through cloud services being in market for 100years, maybe, not be a tech leader. It seriously needs more business perspective/messaging for selling.
