Currently L6 at google, been here since new grad 7 years ago, been L6 for 1 year). Current comp is around 750k tc, have gotten the highest ratings all the years i’ve been at google. I joined as a new grad. Got retention offer about a year ago, constantly got the highest multipliers. WLB isn’t bad, around 40-50 hrs/week, but I can get by with 30-40 if I really wanted to. I work extra hours because I generally find my work interesting. I work in ads. Meta recruiter reached out to me for an e6 role, said e7 isn’t possible due to yoe. I am an important TL in my team (have good relations with my manager and director) and I feel like my path to L7 is about 1 to 2 years away. I don’t feel like google isn’t going anywhere. Search revenue is still growing, gemini is good, LLMs aren’t going to replace search (imo, but obviously that’s my opinions d others can disagree). WLB isn’t a big concern for me, so don’t mind going to meta. But if I take the interview, I want to go full out in the prep, hence asking this question. TC: 750k
Get meta offer and use it to get google retention offer
I’m already pretty much the top of l6 at google. Also, I want to know if meta can give a competitive enough offer for me to take it for retention (although I already got one last year).
Your journey is impressive, but you are not the top of L6 at Google. I am L6 making 800K and getting into 850K with the recent stock appreciation. I mean there is room for the TC. My advice is to stay at Google. The reputation you have built is priceless.
Top ratings are directly proportional to the relationship you have with your director
TikTok and llms are going to replace search
I personally think LLMs will, but social media is def a big threat.
I am an E5 at meta. I work my ass off , but I’m expecting 900k on my W2 this year. Zuck pays.
Did you join when stock was like 100
I’m assuming similar stock growth.
Any specific reason for optimizing TC over a clear career path?
Not sure if they can give me more comp.
Google, you literally didn’t answer the question.
What are you going to do with more comp ? It's just a job.
idk if they can give me more comp. That’s the q.
You make way more than you'll ever need. Focus on grinding the other parts of your life. Exercise. Health. Family. Social.
WHY? You seem to be happy right now with WLB. I wouldnt recommend.
Nobody asked opinion from visa
Meta won’t beat this at L6.
Get L7 at Google and then change to Meta for even better comp… you won’t get to E7 in a year or two at Meta after joining as E6… In next 5 years, this approach will pay off much more than jumping now
I have discussion with Meta recruiter for E6 next week can you please let me know why can’t get E7 after joining E6, just curious don’t want to fall in wrongs bucket where no growth.
It's easier to remain at Google as E6 and leverage existing relationships and reputation to get to E7 there than to switch to Meta as E6 and try to develop E7 there.
Stay out my friend! Just enjoy your life, why do you want to wreck your career
I think if I get top ratings at meta, I’ll get more refreshers.
There is no end to how much money one wants but certainly there is a limit to how much one needs. Mental peace, work-life balance, family etc matters in the long run and in a new company in a new team you really don't know what you're getting into until you start working there. Google gives significant compensation hike and given that you were rated so well historically it's likely to stay the same. I would choose a happy job over compromising with my wlb/mental peace for some extra money.
