I saw job positing for Web Developer at Canonical, Australia. I would like to know how's the team and the CEO at Canonical? #canonical
I wouldn't apply. Done it first hand. Their interview processes are messed up and a waste of time
In case someone's interested in the full interview process btw, check out https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37059857
Lol yeah I noped out as soon as they mentioned written part of the interview. They sent some homework to write an essay that would be reviewed by committee as the first step. Lmao get outta here who's got time for that?
I had 9 1 hour interview with them before they stopped the process due to missing Linux skills, which were not required in the job description. So if you want, give it a try but plan at least 2 month for the whole process. All the people I interviewed were super nice btw.
Sounds like Canonical interviews suck, but did you really apply there not expecting Linux skills to be required?
I have used Linux as a user for over 15 years, bur for the role I did not expect deeper Linux knowledge necessary than using ot casually. It was a customer facing role for a different product from Ubuntu and as it was not mentioned on the JD I assumed ot was not important. If it was so important why check it in the 9th interview.
Canonical has the absolute worst interview process in the entire industry, speaking from personal experience. The benefits in the US are terrible eg no 401(k) matching. Oh and you have to pay for your own device at the beginning, they won’t reimburse.
Really? Paying from your pocket for the work computer ?
I heard that they contribute some amount for it, maybe a thing of past?
Be ready to write a 5 page essay on how you excelled in highschool for your first round I dropped out after the online assessment because they wouldn’t disclose the salary band. I’d not even waste your time

'Hindutva': The Radical Hindu Ideology That Seeks to 'Push Christianity Out of India’
Never been a Canonical employee, but have some ex-Canonical friends from the UK--I wouldn't apply there. The whole work culture, from cult-like job interview process through company chaos, toxic communications, and limited job progression... But that's just me, am curious about others' first hand experience!
I was pleasantly surprised with the work culture after everything I read online. Maybe it’s my team/department that’s very chill, or maybe it got better after 360 reviews started. Yeah, the applications I’ve seen online look like an absolute slog. I only got 15 quick questions, and the interviews were fine, although a bit spread out.
Yeah this is accurate. Felt more the higher up you go in the company
