Can't Decide Where to Work Based off What People Say Here?

I've been reading in blind for a while now and heard that people hate it at the following companies: Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, Twitter, auth0, Dropbox, okta, capital one, jp Morgan, Cisco, Netflix, twilio, Disney, roku, Adobe, indeed, Nvidia, eBay, Intel, amd, LinkedIn, PayPal, Uber, lyft, Robinhood, Square, Expedia, Atlassian, nutanix, gitlab, github, and a few others that I'm sure I'm forgetting. I've read that that the tc's are awful, and wlb is terrible and no one should ever work at them? Debating on staying where I am based on these reviews on here. Thoughts? TC: 60k YoE: 2 #engineering #software #swe Thanks for the help!

I'm just trying to figure out where to work if people don't recommend those places

Microsoft Wduw53 Sep 4, 2020

Is that TC real or also a troll? Not trying to be mean. Asking seriously.

CGI NVRs18 OP Sep 4, 2020

It's real (no troll - no offense taken)

Microsoft Wduw53 Sep 4, 2020

My starting base salary at Microsoft was $66k.

Go literally anywhere to bump up that tc

Apple caracalla Sep 4, 2020

I would love to work at Nvidia, all their projects seem really cool

Moot point if you don’t have any offers

Not trying to make a point, my Tc is low, but I probably work legitimately under 10 hours a week. And I'm not even exaggerating.

If more people from your company were on here, they'd be complaining all the time too. You've got to take Blind with a giant chunk of salt. It makes everywhere sound awful. Join somewhere you can tolerate the bad parts of. Slacker? Amazon or Facebook aren't for you since you might get PIPed. Can't stand bureaucracy? Skip Google. TC not top of market is a deal breaker? Don't bother with Microsoft. Does bad news about your company stress you out? Don't work at Uber.

I think that you are misinterpreting blind. Most of the engineers in the company's you listed have choice. If they thought they have a bad gig, they'd just leave and switch. The majority think that there current position is very good (compared the alternatives). Dont let people rants confuse you. The recently launched company ratings in blind can show you that most people dont agree

OP you are 20+ year old and still haven't realized that regardless of how good something is, there's always someone who dislike it?

There is always going to be a set of people who are not happy with how things are. Those voices get amplified in places like Blind. Most people I interacted with in my current org love the challenges that are thrown at them and are happy to be working there. But here on Blind all anyone can relate to is the rant of a frustrated engineer about PHP, monolith etc. For the first time mediocre people have a voice and a reach beyond their own bubbles. What you are seeing is a mere side effect of that. I wouldn’t take frustrated rants on Blind too seriously. Good luck!

Stay. The devil you know. FAANG sounds like a shitshow. Try Nivida or Snowflake, places like that—non-shitshows. But much safer to stay put at least until 2023.
