Can’t focus on working

Hi folks. I have been locked in a 2bd with wife and two year old for 2 years almost. I’m experiencing declined cognitive abilities. And most importantly I really can’t focus on work. My works are months late. And whenever I open my laptop I just watch YouTube and think of a way to bullshit in the next standup. I think I have screwed up this job for promotion. I need to find another job to rinse the cycle. But I can’t guarantee I’ll be any better on my next job. There is no way for me to take gap year. My kid has medical condition and I need a good insurance. Been paying Max out of pocket for years I’m working at a faang now. Tc 280k

Sound like you’re the problem

We are all our own problems

Charter - Stop being mean. The pandemic has taken a toll on people’s lives specially with a partner and kids. If you cannot provide a solution at least don’t be discouraging

Are you able to put a label on it this time? If not, a therapist should be able to help. Hang in there, OP 🔥🔥🔥

Why not try to go work somewhere outside the apartment? If you have access to office or something

WW RwyF32 OP Dec 18, 2021

Job is in Manhattan. I am living far away in Jersey. Don’t want to commute in the train

Coffee shops, public libraries, etc can be a good option. You can rent your own space at a coworking office

Got vacation time? Take a month or two off, spend quality time with your family, get out of the house, join a gym and start working out. Make a change. I’ve reached burn out many times in my career. It usually just means it’s time to jump ship and go find a more challenging/engaging role. I now take the entire month of September off, drive out to the SW and spend the entire month camping and backpacking. It helps a ton! Therapy, Yoga, Breathing Exercise, Wim Hof Method, meditation. Find whatever it is that works for you.

I accumulated one month vacation. I’m going to use it when I’m close to vest time.

Meditation and medication have been helpful for me. Definitely find some inspiration but also seek professional assistance. You’ve definitely got more stress than I do; I’m SINK. Life is so easy!

take medical leave. sounds like depression.

GitHub 6ft9GF Dec 18, 2021

+1 Please take leave and seek medical advice and help Feel free to DM I have felt this too a few years ago

WW RwyF32 OP Dec 18, 2021

Git how did you resolve this issue? How long was your leave

NTT Data xflighter Dec 18, 2021

The only way to fix your problem is to force yourself to be more disciplined. It could be working at a collocation or blocking your distracting websites so you won’t access them or having long passwords etc., whatever works for you. I was getting distracted by FB and I uninstalled it from my phone as a first step which fixed it else I would have changed my PW to like 30 characters.

WW RwyF32 OP Dec 18, 2021

I was never that type of person. I tried to be disciplined my whole life. Never worked

NTT Data xflighter Dec 18, 2021

What if you block YouTube access from your PC , would that not work ?

Google mtvee Dec 18, 2021

Hey, you need change. Can you move somewhere else with more space? I moved during the lockdown and my life improved 100%. Regarding the job, you either ask for a leave or start to do small things everyday.

WW RwyF32 OP Dec 18, 2021

Where did you move? How much rent are you paying

Splunk kJ4cAv Dec 18, 2021

Declined abilities due to what? Sounds like you're dealing with depression and burnout.

WW RwyF32 OP Dec 18, 2021

I guess I’m more easily distracted and more willing to give up on complex work

Wells Fargo bkon Dec 18, 2021

Why r u locked in the apartment exactly?

WW RwyF32 OP Dec 18, 2021

Just no where to go. Old places get boring over two years
