Preface: Rising interest rates, inflation, slowing growth, etc. are all contributing factors to the recent slew of layoffs. However, lots of companies are having to downsize, Snap & Meta, in particular, because their capabilities have been kneecapped by Apple’s “privacy” policy rollout. In reality, they’re cornering the ads space for themselves (which, I admit, is pretty savvy). You can have your qualms with digital advertising, but it’s a hyper-effective way to drive growth for businesses and brands. Mark had to pivot to the metaverse as a result, for example. Evan Spiegel had to…had to.. I guess he didn’t make any sweeping changes, but my point stands. Apple has screwed a large corner of the tech world. TC: $285k
Apple should be sued for anti-competitive behavior. And I'm also talking about Green iMessage bubble. You know how many girls I lost because of iMessage outting my Android?!
Lol, anti competitive isn't illegal. Apple isnt a monopoly so they can do whatever they want
I recommend everyone to vote with their wallet every time they can. Apple is the most anti-consumer and greedy company in the world. I refuse to allow my family to invest in any locked ecosystem especially when Apple is behind it. Open ecosystem is the way to go to foster innovation.
apple is actually a monopoly and engages in very anti competitive actions
Monopoly means that you dont have a meaningful competitor… ios makes up for less than 30% of marketshare…
If preventing meta or snapchat from spying on consumers is anti-competitive and is apple “kneecapping” these companies, maybe they deserve the kneecapping ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Meta is super invasive and I don’t mind it disappearing from the public eye Fk off with your playing devils advocate
I applaud apple for their privacy focus initiative. These ad companies have implemented the sketchiest, skummiest, data collection practices to make themselves billions unknowingly off our most private information. They deserve to go down and die in the corporate fire
Your naivety is showing if you think Apple really doing it for privacy focus.
What do you think Apple is going to do with your data? Sell it so you can be served targeted ads…
“Power to the people”. Think that there was bug in the system but companies took advantage of that. Now Apple is trying to fix it.
Lol. Is it by building their own ads platform?
Trust my data with Apple and not the other companies. Simply because Apple can make money via other methods and so doesn’t have to go as hard on selling every bit of data to sketchy foreign brokers.
Companies didn’t have enough attrition the last 2.5 years and were generally scared to fire or layoff during a pandemic. Now that covid has cooled down, we’re catching up on terminations. That said, I’ve got a long position in AAPL and I’m up 250%.
How is it monopolistic when ios is only 30% of market share lol
70% domestically— which is the largest advertising market on the planet
Domestically they recently crossed the 50% line which no one thought they could achieve.
Translation — Snap & Meta gambled that they could get away with a privacy invasive advertising model forever, and they lost to Apple’s privacy-centric model.
this is interesting
Bingo
Are you saying that there is no other way for you acquire customers than through privacy-invasive Facebook ads? I call BS!
100% agreed. Screw apple
> Inflation due to layoffs Uh we had high interest rates in March when nobody was laying off.
>Layoffs due to rising interest rates* you have it backwards. And these policy changes take time to affect the broader market, it’s not overnight. What we implement now will have far-reaching effects 6-12-18 months from now
