Car dealership matters or they all want to get your money as much as they could?

I bought a new crv from honda kirkland. Their website mentioned 1000 dollars discount. I made my mind and wanted to buy and salesman said website is not accurate. He also said there are amenities already on the vehicle like rubber edge around door or extra protection on exterior paint.. so purchase price of 37500 with tax and those went to 44300. I got 1k discount at the end. Now I was talking to someone working in another branch, seattle, first he said msrp is final price. When he found out I already bought a car from kirkland. he said kirkland is misleading people and you paid 1k or 500 dollars more. If you would have come to me I would give you more discount.

No, he wouldn’t have done that. He would milk you similarly. Dealers are the worst scammers of all time.

Car dealership and your own negotiation skill matters. Remember MSRP stands for “manufacturer's suggested retail price”.

Don't worry about the price you paid. It all comes out to be almost same anywhere.. just enjoy your car

They get more commission the greater the sale, so obviously they’ll try to squeeze in a few dollars left and right without you noticing. Do more research that’s what I would do, and avoid buying brand new cars unless it’s your thing.

I bought a Toyota from a dealer in San Diego where they didn’t make commission, it was the best purchasing experience of my life. Sadly I don’t think it is still like that.

They’re all dishonest and unethical, but you can still negotiate with them if you’re prepared to walk away – especially in today’s market. Best strategy to negotiate: 1) Know exactly what you want. Model/trim and how much you want to pay for it. 2) Don’t give in when they start feeding you BS. You don’t need any pre installed addons. If they can’t remove them, then you’ll keep shopping. If they can’t remove them, but they’re willing to offer them for free because they want your business, that could work. 3) Always have competing offers. Don’t come to them expecting to buy if you don’t have an offer from another dealership 4) Never buy above MSRP. Ideally, get close to invoice. I know there are exceptions for certain cars, but definitely not for honda crv.

I knew what I want. They said either dealerships are selling at msrp or they add addons to it. How to get competing offers? I bought msrp+ adds on like paint protection and door trim -1000 discount. How screwed I am?

There are dealerships that won't charge mark up by principle, at least I've seen it in Sunwise BMW, while next dealership (and all other dealerships I talked to from Cali to NY) was asking 10k+ markup on an M3.

Google lilly23 Sep 2, 2023

That’s why I ask for full and final best price upfront

Always ask for out the door price. I searched dealership websites within my state. Got the least offer from a dealership 2h drive away by calling/emailing them. Called up local dealership that I was getting this offer and can come collect the car today from them if they match. Was able to save ~3k. You do have to know what make/model you want ahead of time and have to put in some time.

This was 2024 crv. I dont think any dealership would do that.

Additional add ons are just fraud most of the time.

Fuck dealerships. Buy Tesla or Rivian.
