Considering offers at citadel, two sigma. Awaiting final numbers. How’s the career progression for SWE? I see some old posts of citadel employees saying it’s a dead end job, and that what you learn is too niche. Is this true? I’m bored at meta and want something more fast paced. Are these good options? Current TC: 220k, 1 YOE #twosigma #citadel #hudsonrivertrading #janestreet #jumptrading
Bad choices for career progression. Choose places like Jump Trading, Renaissance Tech, HRT, etc that value their tech employees
Wish those were options. Those places are orders of magnitude harder to get into
jump is harder to get into than citadel now? is your offer citadel or citsec?
Just curious, how'd you study? I'm a new grad joining Google soon but was considering making a jump soon after in a similar mannee
Did you interview for new grad roles at these companies? Were there system design questions, and if so, how did you prepare for system design? Was there anything else besides LC and behavioral (like language trivia, theoretical questions on OS/Networking/Security/ML etc.)?
It’s completely random. Interviewers ask whatever they want. There’s no requirements
What did they ask you though? Just so that I have some inkling of what is asked at this level.
Citadel is to Two Sigma as Meta is to Google. Citadel pays better and gives bigger bumps but expects more. Two Sigma let’s you coast and pays consistent with that.
Do you like it there? How’s the work?
Citadel is more like Amazon
Did you get an offer from citadel or citadel securities? If citadel, all else equal, I would choose 2s. If citsec, wlb concerns aside, it's more of a coin toss. If you know the specific group you'll be in, work at whichever company gets you closest to the money (ideally, working on the trading systems or something that directly supports them).
Citsec, is choosing a team or moving around easy like it is in tech? I’d like to be as close to front office trading/quants as possible
Moving around is pretty easy, so long as you're not trying to move to roles closer to front office.
As others have said 2s has better wlb and nice hybrid policy, while citadel on avg pays better, especially with their big signon. Career progression until senior is fine, though after that gets quite hard. Regarding work, there’s plenty of it that is the same as big tech, just in a finance context. But if this is important for you I would talk to the managers and say your concerns.
What’s 2S hybrid policy? Starting in a few weeks
Would you say it’s still a “step up” from F/G in terms on work intensity? I’d look to work as close as possible to the business (front office) and solve more complex problems without the bloat of a goat tech corporation
Career progression at two sigma stalls around level 3~4. (That's after like 5 ish years) Beyond that it's really hard to get any higher without the right project and luck.
what would the TC look like at that level?
@op do you mind sharing tc when you get it? I turned down both for new grad but might jump back
How much was TC? And how many years ago?
any tips for two sigma onsite? what was your offer?
Promotions are rare in hedge funds. TC is not tied to title, generally speaking. If you want a better title, you typically have to hop around.
